Where should I start

I ordered RO and DI membranes, a sediment filter, and a carbon block filter today. I went with cee's advice and am going to use one of the existing carbon modules as the DI module. After looking at the system closer, it will be as easy as changing the tubes around. Thanks, you guys have saved me some cash. Hopefully, this will get my TDS in order, and I will be able to spend the extra money on other needed items.

Good call, you'll be happy and at least 1 week's of "reef allowance" richer LOL! I'll be back on here a bit more 'cause I'm setting up a Solana this w/e so don't hesitate to ask if you have questions. I don't have all the answers but do have quite a bit of experience and can probably offer some suggestions. It'll probably be awhile before you see me at a club meeting however.

I am really wanting to replace all of those flimsy overflow tubes with pvc. Also, I will replace that small sump with a larger one. I would like to have a 100gal plumed sump.

Garrett, that's what I had on my 240. It was something like 100g. I remember that it was 6' long by 1.5' wide. That way I could easily accommodate a huge skimmer, my calcium reactor, a refugium if I wanted, and have a ton of space for extra water volume.

Your dad built my stand and canopy and then I stained/finished it. It was one of my prized possessions until I had to sell it but I've been talking to Matt about buying it back. SO maybe I will get it back sooner rather than later.

Oh, if you guys don't have anything to do on Saturday's you should go check out his RC race car track. Its a blast!

Whaa?! I didn't know Art was into RC. I'll have to give him a call; a great excuse to get out of the hatchery for a bit ;)

Sorry for the hijack--back to reef upgrades...

So I'm thinking of using something like this for my sump build.

I would rather a rectangle but they only offer a 75 gal. I may just go with the rectangle one even though it is a little smaller. I'm just curious if I can use silicon to glue in the baffles on the plastic. I plan on getting an external return pump eventually as well. It will have three chambers:

1st chamber will be for the overflows from the tank.

Then bubble trap baffles.

2nd for a deep sand bed, live rock, macro algae, mangroves, and a mantis shrimp (they are so cool).

Then another set of baffles.

3rd chamber for the skimmer and the return pump.

Any constructive thoughts are appreciated. I have not purchased any materials yet; I'm more in the planning stage right now. I'll post pictures as I go ahead with the project.

On a side note...

Fishboy42 google: Karns split level raceway. That is the site for his rc race club. He built two tracks a flat dirt oval and a off-road buggy track. He hosted a national oval race that made the paper last month. Every Saturday they get 30-40 registered racers. I have a revo but don't really race that much but I have a blast going and watching the races.

Classic ETRC, Matt. Hijacks are part of the game and I love it!
