I am modifying a glass sump and need some 1/4" thick glass.

any suggestions where to buy them? preferably in Milpitas, north san jose area.
home depot only carries 1/8" thick glass.

thanks

Thanks.
I googled them and see they do auto glass. Do auto glass shops also sell small piece sheet glass?

I just need one 16x12 and one 16x8 piece. I could probably just get a 10 gallon tank and take it apart.

Yes I bough my baffles from them. They do more than auto glass. Plus 10 gallon tank won't be 1/4

I got glass for sump baffles from AMC Glass near the plant. It cost quite a bit more than I was expecting but they can do custom cuts no problem.

I called road runner, and price is $18 for anything less than 3ft x 3ft.
For 2 pieces, that will cost more than the sump already unless I get a bigger piece and cut it myself. or I may just reuse the baffle I removed, its about 3/4" shorter than what I wanted.

I just reattached the larger piece of glass back to the sump to create a 3 gallon ATO reservoir. Hopefully that should last me a week. I use 5 gallons on my current tank and that usually lasts 1.5 -2 weeks, mostly 2 weeks.

This is a stock cadlights/scaquarium glass sump that has a tiny 4" refugium section which I think is too small to be really of any use.

I was thinking of raising the skimmer water level from 6" to 8" but decided to keep it at 6" since the sump height is about 12". My eshopps sump skimmer level is about 8" but the sump height is 16".

I used the 1/8th " from lowes in a 20 long, looks flimsy, but the tank itself is made from thin glass (think 10gallon tank). since there will be water on both sides.. it should be ok

I see a lot of search results where people use the 1/8" with no problem and did not find anything saying it did not actually work.
those tanks do have the top and bottom brace though.
in my case, one side can be full of water to the top, and the other side only halfway. But considering max pressure is at the bottom, I see no reason why 1/8" cannot hold 6" or even 12" deep water pressure.
I was considering this option, as 16" x 20" is like $5 and another $3 for the cutter.
I see some people double it up. it will still cost less than getting from a glass shop. I think it's the labor that is expensive, the glass probably costs minimal.

i purchased glass at OSH and they cut it for me to spec with no adiitional charges before when i built my glass sump baffles

i do not remember. Maybe call your local OSH to see if they carry it.

I think i have used 1/8" glass for my 20g long sump with over 8 inches of water without any issues. maybe just during the initial fill up, try to have a balance of water on both sides of the glass to prevent it from the one sided pressure
