As the title says. I would like to buy a balanophyllia... where can I get one?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Okay, I'll try liveaquaria. Rowjimmy, where'd you get yours?
True Balanophyllia may grow comparably to Dendrophyllia, but it doesn't bud like Dendrophyllia. Unless you get it to spawn somehow, the polyp you buy is the only polyp you will have.
There is one caveat, however. I have a coral that was sold to me as Balanophyllia. Granted, I have my doubts. I think the only reason they IDed it as such is due to it's clear tentacles. Otherwise it looks a lot like a Dendrophyllia. In any case, about 4 months ago I made the mistake of placing it too close to my Pseudocorynactis. Being a hungry bastard, my Pseudocorynactis one night decided to try to steal food right from the "Balanophyllia's" mouth. It stung the hell out of the balano, leaving what I figured to be dead remains. In shear desperate hope, I moved the balano and left it in a corner of the tank. Then I forgot about it for the following three months. To my surprise, I found three new baby polyps on it about a month ago. Now, if this is indeed a Balanophyllia, this leads me to believe that they are fairly hardy, at least under the right circumstances. Perhaps they can be fragged with relative ease...

Also came with 7 tiny tiny polyps around the edge of the coral that have grown quite well.

That is awesome. Do you mind telling me how much you paid for it?![]()
Ouch... 125 for a polyp is painful. How do these grow compared to dendros?

GoingPostal,
I was always intrigued by your Balano. I posed the question about Balanophyllia budding in the "Balanophyllia Pictures" thread, but never got an answer. Your specimen definately looks like a Balanophyllia to me. I wish I could get mine to "bud" like that.

Mine was $50 I believe. $125 seems high to me.
