Where to buy Chaeto

Hi guys...and gals.

Wondering where I can buy some macro for my new refugium ?? Have read that chaeto is good/stable vs. colerpa. Not sure about anything else.

Seems the local stores around Milwaukee don't have any.

Ideas ??

I got some from a member here in the forum. Just went to his place and picked it up. As soon as I have enough in my fuge, I'm going to return the favor. Pretty much got started in the last week, so I'm not sure how fast it'll grow.

Growth rate will be determined by light and nutriments in the water. If it is growing to fast then it an indication that you have a lot of the nutrements in the water that you want them to get rid of.

In the long range they should level out at a quantity that can handle the load from your tank. The only time this does happen is if you have then in a small container of say 5 gallons on a 200 + gallon system where they do not have room to grow.

On my new system I'm going with a 70 gallon refudgium and a 120 gallon main tank.

Thanks for the offers guys.

I got impatient and added some caulerpa....not looking so good, kinda turning pale over the week or so it's been in.
If it gets clear I should pull it out right ??

Maybe should now as it's not worth the risk.

Is there any special way to take care of Cheato?

Someone was kind enough to give me some. I put it in my tank (don't have a refugium) because it's a new setup and I'm starting to get a MAJOR hair algae infestation.

I thought maybe some Cheato would use up nutrients and help stem the tide.

Is there any special place in my tank it should be? I've just wedged it in some rocks under the lights. It isn't growing like a weed and part of it is taking on a brown color.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

The more light/flow the better.
If it is taking on a brown color, it maybe just some diatom algae growing on it.
I have grown chaeto in my display tanks before. If your tank has natural light, move the chaeto to that side of your tank.

Chaeto will not cause hair algae.
