Where to buy first DSLR help

Going to purchase my first dslr camera here soon, specifically a nikon d3300. I have never owned any sort of camera bedsides an iPhone. I have become intrigued by photography and hope to learn a lot with this camera. I'm curious as to where i should purchase this camera at and who may have the best deals, if possible. Id like to avoid getting it shipped to my house because i am a bit paranoid about the package and how it will be handled. Also, i am new to cameras and from what research I've done i believe the d3300 would be a good choice? Open to advice, or anything i need to know.

As of choice of camera, that's up to you. Read the stickys at the top of the forum. They will also help with what some settings are and how they apply to shooting your tank. I use B&H dot com and am very comfortable with their shipping practices.

Here: http://doddcamera.com/ (I Googled up "cuyahoga falls camera store" and it seems like a reasonably good bet)

Go talk to those guys, consider a rental or a class, and definitely hold a few cameras in your hands. You could talk to the guys at Best Buy or HH Gregg if you dare, but a true camera store would be much preferred. My local BBY "camera guru" doesn't know what white balance is.

It's definitely beneficial to speak with an actual camera shop, but I still buy 99% of everything I own on Amazon. Good luck beating their prices and return policy.

Thanks alot for your help guys!! I called dodd and they currently do not have the d3300 in stock. Is it bad to buy from best buy? Lol

I did, but only because my in-store credit card was large enough for my entire camera purchase at once and I did the 12-month no interest thing. Otherwise I am a big fan of local, small stores if possible. The information you get is far superior and it's nice to reward them for the attention they give you.

You could also wait and be sure it's the camera you want.

If you haven't held a camera yet, it's nice to. Numbers and specs online are not very important if you don't like holding or operating it. In my case, I went Canon just because something about it felt better to me than a similar Nikon and I liked the menu layout better.

I luckily was able to hold a few cameras earlier today. Am in a bit of a dilemma like most first time dslr buyers, go figure! I also really like the canon sl1, although a bit small in my hands, it feels of better build quality in my opinion. I also like the grip better, but am not sure if its to small or not. I seemed to be able to navigate through the menu well so maybe i would get use to it. I do like the menu, and touch screen better than the nikon, but i feel that the d3300 has better specs and picture quality from what ive seen online. Why does it seem that the nikon has better zoom, but has the same lens as the canon?

I've bought a lot of equipment from B&H Photo. Fast shipping and no tax, at least for Minnesota shipments.

also Adorama.com. bought from them and B&H for years and never had a problem with shipping. as for the camera, get the one that feels better and you find easier to navigate. Canon and Nikon do not have bad DSLR's. the same can be said for Sony, Pentex, etc.

I have purchased a large quantity of camera stuff from B&H; I feel their prices are good and their honesty exceptional.

I picked up the nikon from best buy. Unfortunately b&h has them on back order, i didn't want to wait. Best buy customer service was absolutely horrible. Even though i knew what i wanted, they breathed down my neck like blood sucking vampires. Real unhelpful, unpleasant experience. Never again!!! But, i love the camera and has been a fun learning experience so far.
