Where to buy Fish?

Just taking a quick survey. Where has everyone been buying their fish? My sixline that I nemo'd finally croaked. The others beat him up pretty bad this week and he died. If it has been online let me know if you want to do a group order.

So nobody is willing to say where they bought their last fish from? I bought my last one from AI but the health of the fish is always in question.

sorry, the last fish I bought was a clown goby from A Splash of Life in Elgin, IL. It was very healthy but I was unaware of its jumping habits until I found him in jerky form on the carpet.

Sorry to hear about your Goby, but that is what I am talking about. I bought some fish from Preferred Pets in Janesville this winter and the health of the fish was amazing. Now I am having a hard time buying from anyone in this area because the quality just is not there. I have heard several people boast about Hoffmans in Milwaukee Maybe I will have to plan a road trip.

About 10 monthst? ago, I got in on an order with Jandlms when he ordered critters from REEFTOPIA. I know I was happy with the quality of the fish I got.

I had ordered:
(1) BLACK CAP BASSELETTE
(2) ROYAL GRAMMA
(1) PYGMY ANGEL

All of which are still alive and kickin. We were amazed by the Black Cap, which was so excited after shipping, it was jumping out of the water in the bag. The size n the fish was great, they were nice hearty specimens. The Black cap has been mauled twice, once by a pair of unruly clowns and another time by a trigger. Both times it made a 100% recovery.

The Royals were a hair smaller than I usually see in stores, but they have grown and filled in.

The Pygmy is gorgeous, and eats great.

I was aprehensive about doing an online order. My wife ordered clowns once before for me from Flying Fish. They seemed fine at first, but eventually killed 2/3rds of my clowns from alodinioum. (sp?) This wasn't FF's fault, rather a kick in my nuts for not QTing them. We all learn sometime.

I would also be interested in ordering, The last time we ordered from Reeftopia, orders above 120 were free freight??? I think, watch the box charge also.

I would do several fish, proly a couple grammas and a angel or 2 for sure, maybe some crew.

I once ordered from Jeff's Exotic fish. Wasn't impressed. Only got shrimp and snails and crabs though.

I could see ordering a couple of fish and maybe some cleaners from reeftopia if we get enough people together. And yes, orders over $120 had free shipping (overnight).

I've bought my last few things from Dr. Foster and Smith Retail Outlet in Rhinelander, and Scales N' Tails in Stevens Point.

I usually pickup in Reinlander. Never order from the offsite. Nellie put together an order at christmas if I remember right...

I'll buy fish just about anywhere if they're a more common fish. Things like yellow tangs, damsels, etc. I'd be more than comfortable purchasing online.

Some of the more touchy fish and ones that can have problems in captivity I more often than not wait and find one that is in good health that I can watch for a week or two.

I think it also depends on where the LFS stock is coming from. Some wholesalers are better and treat their incoming/outgoing fish and inverts better than others. I've seen some good ones and some bad ones...

We just did an $800 group order from Reeftopia.com for WRS. Mostly snails and crabs, but a couple fish, starfish, etc. People gave it rave reviews.

Brings the price of each individual item down quite a bit by doing it as a group order.

It's totally free shipping on orders over $120...

Did they give you bigger discounts because of the $800 group order?

There was an additional 10%. Not sure what the price point was for that.

After a bad experience with LFS with our first 4 clowns (3 of which died shortly after getting them), we've gotten all the rest of our fish from Live Aquaria. All have been very healthy and in great shape, we would order from them again in a heartbeat!

I would also be interested in a group order, we can use some hermits, snails and emerald crabs (darn bubble algae!). I have always wanted to order from Reeftopia but never had enough to order to get free shipping and didn't want to pay for it, but they really have great prices on all of their stuff!

Reeftopia--Free Shipping & Box on orders of over $120.00. There is a $10 fuel surcharge on all orders. Orders of $200 or more get a 10% discount if ordered on-line.
