I have seen onyx clowns go for the price of normal perculas...around 15-20. My pair that I've had for more than a year now were from lfs that sold them for 15/fish. So with some luck and patience you should be able to get two and pair them up for as little as 30. Good luck!

I got a pair from Pasadena Tropical Fish about a year ago. Less than $20 ea.

Unfortunately, I had a Hawkfish that wouldn't stop harassing them. Both died sadly.

I have a few Onyx clowns available right now and a 3 different ones with some unusual patterns. One has one similar to the Nike Swoosh. They aren't as crazy as the above one, but they are pretty cool. LMK if you're interested.

yea these are the ones...how do I get on the waiting list?

This clown is a morph and ORA is attempting to breed them to see if they develop similar patterns...similar to what they did with the misbar ocellaris. However, since these are morphs, they are extremely hard to come by and it will probably be a while before they can sell them commercially.

Anyways, the ones I have are morphs and I don't have any pictures right now because I just got them. I'll take some later this week. They aren't as crazy as this one, but they are different looking.

The fish that ORA is selling as picassos are nowhere as nice as the above picture.
The above pic is a wild caught fish that ORA has paired with a female onyx perc. The pair is producing babies but the markings are only slightly different than regularly marked percs.

The fish Fridmani has on his website labled as picasso-type is about what the markings look like on the ORA babies, except without the nice black or the deep orange color.

The above fish is maybe a 2 or 3 in your lifetime type of fish.

Since Ed responded I'll have to say that the best onyx clown I got was from him a few years ago. It was solid black with white markings except for two tiny patches of orange on the fins. So imagine....solid black and white onyx clown with two tiny patches of orange. Only way that I could tell it was still a onyx and not a black percula is from the tiny orange patches. It was an awsome fish. wish I still had a pic of it.

ok i found a decent pic of the onyx from an old yahoo groups page I had. It's from up top but you can see the one orange spot on the fin and then the face is orange. So I goofed when I said it had two spots on the fins. But as you can see the tail and the rest of the body(including the other fin) is completely black.

sadly it got killed by a large female tri that I had in the same tank. That tri I sold to some guy on the board that lives on the east coast. Wonder if that tri is still alive....

sigh..who owned it and how did it go out?

nice clown sad to hear its no longer alive
whats a tri

A tri is a tricinctus clown(3 stripe clownfish). They are endemic to the Marshall Islands.

They basically look like clarki clowns but have black tails.
