Where to get Calcium Chloride Dihydrate around here in the summer?

(DOW Flakes)...as well as magnesium chloride hexahydrate (MAG Flakes).

I've decided to try making my own 2 part for a while until I can afford a new co2 setup and get my reactor working--but it's tough to find de-icer products when it's 85 degrees outside!!!

Any suggestions?

I'm using baking soda to keep my Alk up...it fell to 6 dKH this weekend, but I'm back at 8 dKH for now...but the Calcium is still at an all time low of 320ppm this afternoon. Not good.

I see MAG Flakes on there, but no DOW Flakes...Have you used their Caclium product? They also don't appear to sell retail?!

They do sell retail.give them a call.

The dow now has bromide in higher concentrations then previously making it no better then the rest as far as I know.I personally did not ever try any of the others(other then dow) but I know there were many threads on RC about the different ones that are acceptable.roadrunner, peadalow etc...

NAMCO actually sells a Calcium Chloride Dihydrate for the pool. I read the MSDS but it's tough to tell since that's not my thing. It didn't mention any impurities. I'm thinking about trying it, but since it's made especially for NAMCO it will be impossible to find anybody else on here that's actually tested it.

Builders Supply on S. Main St in Wilkes-Barre carries DowFlake and Peladow. I would assume they still have some since they had about 10 pallets full when I was there in the winter. You can give them a call....but it's probably a pretty long trip for you.

That's just it..there are a LOT of places that carry it, but everybody hides it when it's out of season. Even HD told me that they had ice melt in the back, but the stock person I spoke too said the employees have to say they don't have any...and the UPC might not be in the system even if he snuck a bag out. He was going to try, but since I didn't recognize the name I told him not to bother.

Grrr...I think I might try the NAMCO stuff...just because I'm only looking for a quick fix. I'll use KALK and a CA long term, I just can't afford the gear right now.
