Where To Get This Amazing Rock?

I'm thinking to keep my current tank as a mixed reef to enjoy corals, but am looking at putting together a 125G FOWLR eventually to enjoy larger fish. The thing is, I really want some cool rock to build a unique scape since there won't be any coral. In the middle of the tank in the vid at the link below, there is a rock that seems to have grown straight up in a fan kind of way. I've seen it (rarely) in other vids as well. Anyone know where to get this type of rock?

Thanks,

That's a dead coral skeleton in the middle, see them here and there, sometimes like seaside gift shops bleached for decoration.
In the old days we used stuff like that and it would turn brown.
It's not really the most desirable rock as filtration benefits go but it's ok

What you need is either old dead coral or holey limestone or the type. A lot of gaps, as much like a sponge as possible. You should investigate an lfs who may have a tank of 'conditioned live rock' or you can start with dead, dry rock (limestone!) and add, eg, just a gallon of lfs water to start the bacteria...let it sit in the dark in a saltwater tub with warmth and aeration, changing part of the water weekly, for several months. You can see where buying from an lfs tank is easier.

Whatever you get, marine tanks eventually coat up in brown and pink, and need to do so. The rock IS your filter, and contains bacteria that process fish waste. One of my older rocks looks as if you'd dripped thick pink ice cream over it---pink is your ultimate fate, unless you go for living corals, which will coat it in fluffy tentacles and such.

Thanks Sk8r. Its not so much the color I'm looking or but the shape...but if it doesn't provide the same amount of filtration eventually as say dry rock, then its not gonna work for me unfortunately. Or do you mean it will change to that shape eventually if done as you suggest?

He's using that on the right side, not a big fan except to use it sparingly. Really love that middle piece, not the boats, lol.

You can build it out of dead coral and superglue, but I would be extra careful and soak any piece you get as decoration for a very long soak in a proper dose of Prime, which neutralizes chlorine, the principle way they bleach stuff for decorative use. Chlorine can kill most anything.
