Where to place A. Soli?

Im pretty sure i ahve an A. solitaryensis. Right now its mainly brown with purple/whitish tips. Problem is i dont really know where to place it. Also what kind of flow does it need? Right now its about 10" from a 250w DE hamilton reefstar. Thanks in advance.

High light, high flow. Stick it on the edge of a rock that gets good current and high light. Like a cliff hanging!!

If you decide to place high, attach it to a large base first so that you can move it later. I always recommend low placement when I distributed frags of mine (Tyree Soli) if it's permanent, as it'll quickly overshadow your other inhabitants. As long as your lights are strong enough, it'll do fine at the bottom.

Yea i ended up placing it further up in my rockwork. Eventually, it could cover a couple things but i figure i will frag it if it gets that big. Unlike many people i have a time limit for my tank :( I only have one year left... and counting...

i thought that they are deepwater acros i just got one i have it halfway up and high flow should i move him?

Yup, agree with Karl, aka Unarce, formerly reefnutz :D. I got a piece from Karl some time back and I placed it about 4" off the bottom hanging out with nothing under it. It has only about 5" of room to grow out toward the glass, but I'll deal with that in time...I stuck it on a chunk of rock that can be moved in time...unless it encrusts completely over the chunk which is possible I guess. Here is a top down shot if it from a few months ago...Sweeeeet Piece Karl.

Wow, looks like that frag is doing great!:D Have any of the corallites in the middle grown upwards?

I miss my colony:(

slojmn, be careful. That coral will overgrow a small chunk of rock in no time. This coral likes to put out a lot of base. IMO, this coral pretty much needs its own dedicated position in the tank and can't be moved around later because it encrusts so much of the live rock in such a short period of time.

Here is what mine did in less than a year:

When this pic was taken, the base was covering more rock than I could cover with both of my hands.

travis, Wow, I'm convinced, time to do some re-arranging this weekend with the soli in mind. I have an idea and it should be pretty easy to get it in a good spot for the duration. Very nice top down shot of your piece and thanks for the heads up :D.

Karl, it has yet to put out any upward shoots from the middle but all of the tips are curling straight up toward the light. When I look head on all I see is the underside of the curling tips toward the light. I think there are a few corallites looking more plump in the center section...but mostly the base is spreading on all sides where it is attached. It has colored up really nicely.

Heck yeah! Looks more colorful than mine. I hope it starts to tier out for you soon. I wonder if it needs more flow.

Sweet soli, Travis! Nice deep color.

That is what mine does too. The edges will grow upwards at about a 45 degree angle for a while and then grow horizontally for a while and then grow at an angle, and keep going through this cycle. Here is a side shot that shows the angle growth:

Unarce, thanks.:)

Karl, It has quite a bit of flow on it from the Tunze stream on that side of the tank bouncing off the glass and the return gets it as well. I think it is doing the upward growth and base growth like travis described. I have no worries that it will tier out...I need to make the room for it as travis has demonstrated with his shots :D. Karl, BTW If you want a piece of this back when it gets bigger let em know. I'd love to see your new cube set up.

Karl, Sweet tank...how is the chip in the corner holding up?? Don't you just love the Lee Mar stuff. Mine is a custom Lee Mar (not starfire though) and I am so happy with the tank. Glad to know you got plenty of corals to grow up in there. Paul and I will need to take a road trip out your way one of these days.
