Where to place Stream Rocks?

I am seriously considering getting a pair of Stream 6000s and a multicontroller for my 210 that is on the way. I am going to have a DSB and I am conserned about the sand blowing all around. If I were to get the rocks to put the streams in and point them up, I think that will cut back on the sand blowing. Where would I put the rocks? In both of the front corners facing up? Should they go way on the bottom or in the middle? I want to keep all sorts of corals so there needs to be areas of low flow, medium flow, and high flow. What angle should they be pointing at? Any help would be appreciated....

Thanks,
Jeremy

The Stream rocks cannot sit on the bottom of the tank, they need to be up on rock so no send can get in them. They also should be the top rock on a structure as the pumps will need to be removed for periodic cleaning. When set level they give the flow a 5 degree angle upwards. Positioning is a trial and error deal and just not really something I can advise on, I do it more to humor people but honestly, without seeing the tank and knowing what you want to keep you have to determine this yourself. Two 6000 are good if you are doing anything but SPS for SPS that might be a bit weak and the 6100's would be better suited.

thanks, do you have any pics of a tank that has the steam rocks in it so I can how and where they were placed?

I dont know for sure is the search function has been reenabled. The only picture I have is the photo I took for the catalogue of the prototype. A 210 is a big tank, You will have no problems if you put them on a stack of rock on the ends of the tank so they are pretty much centered in height and width of the aquarium

Here is the pic, bear in mind this wasn't layed out for anything but a small catalogue photo and of course we photoshop everything so little details like the cord are edited out. In real use, the cord can be neatly run up the back after running down along the sand bed. The cord is 16ft long so you have plenty to work with. Also, cords seem to grow coralline very quickly so it isn't much of an issue. Just bear in mind every 3-6 months the pump needs to be cleaned so don't make it impossible to access. I have seen pics on the general board of the rocks covered in coralline and polyps and they are almost indestinguishable. They are ceramic so have about the same structure and porosity of real live rock.

thanks for the pic. So I would put them on opposite sides of the tank on a stack of rocks thats near the center of the tank. Would I point them up or just straight across? I don't want them to mess up my sand....

If you place them level the flow has a slight upron and on a matured sand be it will be just fine, a fresh one likely will be stirred up a bit.

Can I place corals on the stream rock?

Can I place corals on the stream rock?

Roger et al,

I have two stream rocks in a 90 gallon (50*17*24). They sit at either end facing towards the middle, but take up quite a bit of space. I am currently stocking up with corals and I wonder to what extent I could place corals on them. The problem I see is when I have to move them for cleaning the stream. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Matthew.

You should be able to lift the rock and pull the streams out without removing the rock from the aquarium but I would limit the corals growing on the rocks to hardy, bulletproof specimens just in case- Montipora digitata, mushrooms, zooanthids and Xenia as well as colt corals and leathers- these would likely survive a brief exposure to air and would quickly regenerate if damaged.
