Where to start, picking livestock

Im not quite sure where to start. I have a 40b with a 20gal sump. I will be getting my salt, water and dry rock soon and live sand soon. I dont know where to start for picking corals, fish, crustaceans, etc. I dont want anything difficult but i would also like some interesting "engineers" and cool corals perhaps. Maybe a sand sifter. So is there a typical "package" of corals and livestock that work together in a tank for begginners?

Before you do anything the tank needs to cycle.

Get it all set up and running, throw a couple frozen shrimp in there from the store and keep checking the nitrites and ammonia till they go to zero and stay there for at least a week.

It will probably take a month or two.

In the mean time. I would suggest if you are wanting engineer type fish like the engineer goby, you need to put the rock in first and then the sand. This makes sure the engineer can't dig under them and topple them. If you epoxied them together it would be additional insurance.

While your tank cycles it should give you plenty of time to create a stock list.
