Where's the ich?????

As you guys remember my tangs show sings of ich and they were moved to a 20 QT.

Since the QT is to small to keep all my fish i bought a 55g to use as a QT for all my fish and i was waiting for the cycle to be done in that QT tank ,I put the tangs back in the DT.

Now the white dots are gone , Should i keep on going with the treatment or leave them in the DT?

I'm still waiting on my QT to do a fast cycle (since i used LR from DT) and do the 72 days with out fish in my DT if needed


Now my question the ich went to the stage where it drops off the fish?
Do hyposalinity or copper?
Cant do TTM cause I dont have 2 tanks that can house all my fish

TTM can be done in 5 gallon buckets, lots of them in your case, if you have enough room.

Your rocks carried Ich to the QT tank now. If you had done TTM and dropped fish into clean QT, all would be done. Now, you can try running the QT in pure RODI(no salt) to kill off ich while your fish are going through TTM - in other tanks.

I suspect but can't confirm the 12 days in RODI will kill all ich, so once you are ready to put fish into QT you better keep it in hypo(1.08) for extended time, or go chemical with CP or copper.

It might be easier, even now, to put that rock back into the DT, clean and dry the QT, then restart the QT using something like biospira and prime(if ammonia shows up). If you do this, then TTM the fish, and plop them into the sterile QT when done. No chem, no hypo.

Thats what I would do/suggest. This guy is correct on all parts of his post. Very good advise.

Also, just because it looks like its gone doesn't mean much. It could have easily reinfected in areas that you cant see such as the gills, which is actually the first spot of attack anyhow. Not to mention since you took rocks out of your infected display, there could be one cyst on those rocks, thats popping right now, releasing hundreds of new parasites as we speak/type...

When you TTM fish it has to stay in there for 7 to 12 days ,buckets? i dont have the space for that many buckets

no you drop salinity in 2 week period and keep it for almost a month @ at 11ppt after the last spot has been seen and you should be able to do more, and is not as stressful as changing fish from bucket to bucket every so often

Yea i assumed that it was the stage where it drops from the fish and gets attached to any rough surface.

the rock was put back to my DT adn the water is gonna be in water that ich dont survive 11ppt or 1.009 salinity ain't gonna be easy to keep it there but it has to be there since ich can survive in 1.011 salinity water


My QT was is a 20g but i bough a 55g to do this while my DT is fish less for 120 days

Just for my tangs i need 3 5gal buckets

My kole tang stresses to much when i try to catch him, and stop eating for few days so idont know how good would it do in TTM

No method is easy on the fish. Stress, danger of injury during capture and possible exposure to ammonia are all hard to take. But so is ick.

It both depresses and stresses me to have to put these beautiful creatures through something they can't possibly understand, but sometimes it's necessary.

Besides 5 gallon buckets, I keep extra Brute trashcans for larger fish. I keep them in the shower of an extra bathroom and stack them when not in use. That keeps them close to the drain when I need to change water.

Even if you lose a fish or two, it's probably better odds than not doing anything, even if sometimes that works too. However, it is the fish that survive, not the tank. It will still have the capability to infect new fish.

If small enough sure. I wouldn't be putting a 6"er in one though. Best to get a 10 or 20g at that point. It is only 12 days and then you can get them into something larger.

I am doing TTM now,I have three tangs,pair of manderins,and about 8 more fish.I am doing one fish at a time.I am also useing prazipro during TTM.Just don't feed them too much,to keep ammonia down.I will be doing a transfer every 48 rather than 72 hrs.
