hey there

im putting together my new 180

its gona be mainly sps with a few lps and softies along with 2 clams

im wondering what is the best reactor to use for my tank

Precision Marine PM?

My Reef Creation MRC?

Korallin?

and if so do i go off what they say that unit can handle example the PM says CR422 says it can do 400gallons do u think thats acurate and would be ok for my tank

can u tell me what other items i would need to go along with this to make a complete set up ready to run

i know u need some kinda guages a CO2 bottle a bubble counter and reactor media what else would i need ??

thanks!

how much would a complete set up cost about??

im still kinda confused to what all i need to run a complete system dont they have some kinda complete kit instead of having to buy all the parts seperate?

what size would be good for my new 180?

thanks guys!

Well I must Say that I prefer either Deltec or Korallin... They both can be a pain to setup from what I hear (korallin user here) but IME the Korallin seems to work awesome... In my 224g sps tank I go thru about a 5lb co2 container Every 10-12 months and the thing is rock solid.. A bit Figidy to get setup but once you get past the learning curve it will be one of the best reactors that you can own... I added a second Chamber to my Korallin and It is rocking pretty good... No issues and no complaints... And to top it off MarineDepot has it on sale right now :D

MRC Reactors are well built and reasonibly priced. You can go to the Deltec website and check out there reactors and see if you like anything.

wow Fishy.. Thats a huge Reactor for that Tank.. I run the 1502 on my 224g tank... No problems at all... Replace media every 3-4 months and the Co2 almost yearly..

Why do you replace the media every 3-4 months?

Because thats about how fast I burn thru Media... But as of Late since I started the tank over Its been a while since I dont have the growth that I used to... But when my tank was fully stocked with 9 clams and lots of SPS It used up the media in about 3-4 months... That would Leave about an Inch or so Left in the reactor..

I normally Run Mine at 6.5 in the first Chamber and 6.7 in the second Chamber... The one good thing about the Korallin reactor is I have not Experienced a pH drop from Using it... I dont/Wont use Kalk

Thanks, I was just curious. I heard the media dissolves prematurely below 6, but you're above that.

yeah Usually the ARM starts to melt about 6.3 from past experiences... I run ARM in the Reactor and some Really fine (rowa clone) stuff in the second chamber... It seems to work very nicely... The Effluent I get is about 45dKh out of the reactor...

James

THanks Illusion, I thought you were swapping it out, not just replacing what had been used up.

I just order a second chamber and was wondering how you measure the effluent from each chamber?

I have an Aqua Medic 1000. It may be oversized for me, but I love it. However, finding parts is proving very difficult.
