Which chiller???

The Reef Producer
Mini Arctica 1/15th horsepower, 900btu/hr Rated for 40 gallons - $339
Prime Mini 1/10th horsepower, 1485btu/hr Rated for 70 gallons - on sale $335

I have a 30gallon tank with a 10gal sump.

Ambient room temp in the summer will reach high 80's to low 90's...

Which is better??

I think that the Prime Mini 1/10th HP would be a better choice because then your not running a chiller thats as close to its max recommended rating. Plus its nice to have the extra cooling power incase there's a really hot spell or you want to add equipment or lighting that adds extra heat. :smokin:

I really am leaning toward the smaller JBJ unit.

Its 1/15th horsepower and rated for 40 gallons and puts out 900btu/hr.

Whats weird about the whole rating thing is that the 1/15th horsepower prime mini-chiller puts out 700btu/hr but is rated for 50 gallons.

So if I go by their btu/hr to gallon ratio, the smaller jbj unit kicks its butt!

How can a unit putting out less "cooling" power be rated for a larger aquarium than a unit putting out more "cooling" power. Is JBJ just being conservative in their gallon rating?
