As members of FRAG we should all voice our opinion on which forum we prefer. Hopefully this will end the debate on where the "official" thread should be posted. Whatever the results are, hopefully "The Board Of Directors" will act accordingly.

There are benefits to having both available.

But most people spend their time on the frag facebook group page then here.

they closed the fb page, and seems that it all died at once. I was thinking the new frag forum would gain more traffic, it didn't. I also do not like the layout of the new frag forum. To plain, and simply boring

BTW. Voting is totally anonymous, and the poll will only be open for 48 hours (So don't procrastinate) I will post results at the end.

Where to begin....

The decision to change the AZ FRAG Facebook Group to a page was an attempt to get people to use the new forum, a format that that the club owns, and we all own. This is our club, and the board thought it would be good to have everyone on the same page. Clearly that will not happen over night, or from the looks of things, in the next three years.

So if there are reasons you do not want to use the new site please let us know and let those reasons be heard. What can we do to make it better? If you simply do not like change then fine we won't change. But if there are valid things we can do to help unify us all and make us stronger as a community then I am all for it. Keep in mind not everyone's voice will be heard here on this thread posted on RC. And Not everyone's voice will be heard on Facebook. Those who read this and get to vote are only part of the reefing community here in Arizona.

I don't face book, so I was certainly open to the new FRAG forum. Obviously it is not getting the volume yet to draw on going conversation, but I hope it will.
A few minor challenges with the new site (better discussed there) but overall like it. Basically I participate in a few of the sections on RC, so I will always visit here, but I am always open to going to Frag if it is moving well, too.

I don't know what the problem I was having posting on the forum is. I went to post and I get bar at the bottom that asks if I want to open and save. I left the page after trying to post twice with what I thought was no results only to come back later and see my double posting. It's things like that that need to be addressed. Whether it was a problem with the site or me I'm not sure but it was annoying. And as for right now I would say we need to keep both of these options open for posting until the other page gets enough members/viewers. It's not that big of a deal to have another forum but after the az reefs debacle where no one ever posted or did anything but sell it may be a little hard to get some of the old diehard off of here completely.

The old frag forum that I think it was Shane had was busy.. this current one died. I don't know why it other one died. tried to log in one day and nothing.

Really posting here boils down to:

  • We've been doing it
  • The people are here

I get that but if the people went to the new forum, then they would be there leaving us with only "we've been doing it" as a reason.

The new forum:

  • contains sub-forums for better organization of club information,
  • allows us to highlight our sponsors
  • is branded with the FRAG logo
  • allows us to create our own rules and environment for discourse.
  • allows us to purchase forum add-ons to give it whatever functions we need in the future.

These are all things RC does not allow.

The idea, not only behind the new forum but FRAG's direction in general, is to turn the club into something more visible and bigger than it currently is. That's the idea behind bringing in more speakers, having a Farmer's Market, and branding FRAG in a professional way.

Right now people generally find out about FRAG through the hobby, it would be nice if people found out about the hobby through FRAG. At least in the valley FRAG could grow interest which serves to grow the hobby, grow the club, and improves the economy for our local fish stores which in turn drives prices down for all of us. This takes some time and effort. I personally feel that effort begins with support of the new forum for club related activities.

Maybe we can get RC to add the URL for the FRAG official site below this forum name like the mycomas.com link below the central oklahoma forum? I think that might help a little....cant hurt anyway.

I prefer the FRAG site but for now use both until it picks up a bit more there. Its not like it is going to gain a hundred members over night.

The only thing I can think of is that the original forum was made with free software and when launched it had more glitches in it and made it harder for people to post especially pictures.

Agreed, we do not want to make it more difficult for everyone on RC, but make it Usable for everyone in the Arizona community.

We are going to try to add this to our club description on the clubs link.

Hopefully we get more people to use it. Not just from RC, but everywhere. And as always let us know what you want to see on the new site, things that would get you and everyone to go there. Let us know of any bugs so we can fix them before someone else has an issue.

I personally enjoy the new site, just needs more traffic. The only annoying thing is getting message notifications for everyone replying in a thread and it says you have multiple messages

Notifications can be turned off which is nice and more traffic is just a matter of people signing up. :)

Just a reminder that the poll will close around 9:30 tonight. Hopefully everyone who wishes to have a say in this issue will chime in. I think this is a good way to resolve or bring issues to the table without everyone getting into heated debate on a public forum. Remember, at the end of the day this is all about enjoying this wonderful hobby.

I say both really, from a sellers perspective I would want as much exposure to my listing as possible...this way you catch the few who only go there and not here and visa versa. I mean you can just copy and paste your listing post and be done in like 30 seconds.

But hey, that's why its an opinion.

yep, I actually do the same thing with my paintball gear, pbnation, mcb, craigslist, facebook.....I at least always post my sale threads on 2 of the forums just for more exposure. Takes an extra 2-5 min a day to check responses and PMs on a second forum for me. Again, I dont mind doing this...others may.

Mael has the perfect solution. Keep both until the other site has enough traffic.

I agree but the problem comes when we have to post threads that everyone should be on at the same time, like event selling and trading treads or PROP auction threads. It gets confusing when there are two different one.

I use RC for the abundance of information on all the forums, not just the local one. Therefore, I will continue to use RC, and would rather not go to 2 different sites when I post a question or a sale item.
