from an artistic standpoint, number one looks best. however... a certain someone isnt visible in number 1

I myself like number 2. But thats probably because Junior is out more.

Question for you...were are your pumps? Are you using a closed loop?

no CL. Pumps (powerheads) are at far end against the wall. Main pump is downstairs and returns (penductors) are at top right.

I just noticed something: you can see how well my Dremel job came out on the end of the hood.

I see why someone would wonder about the pumps/powerheads. They're barely visible in these pix. It wasn't intentional- these pix were whipped off with my point and shoot. There's a Vortech MP40, a big Tunze Stream and two MJ1200's hiding down there in the shadows.
It might not look it in these pix but water is rockin' inside my aquarium.

Is there an overflow box I can't see as well? Or is it a small one like gl*******s? I would really like to see the positioning on your pumps if possible?

How much of that rock structure touches the end of your tank were the pumps are? I'm guessing your rock stack is held together somehow? Maybe rods?

no overflow box- two drain standpipes.
rock doesn't touch the end of the tank where pumps are.
rock was stacked rather hastily and there's nothing holding it together.

you can see pump placement in my "new canvas" thread ;)
