**>> It will be for a 120 gallon tank. Planning on being mixed reef of 2/3 sps, 1/3 lps. Do I need two chambers to hold a good pH (over 8.1 or so)? Or is the second chamber (out of these two here) mainly for extra tank capacity?

I would also like to scrap using the 2 part Ca and alk. I know I might still have to use kalk for top off. Ideally I'd like to not. My tank is currently very lightly stocked (it's 65 gallon now) but will be upgrading to 120. I top off with kalk and daily 2 part of about 60 ml per part, often more. I still have to add in extra Ca chloride and bicarb to keep those levels over 400 and 3 (meq). I do keep my Mg+ at 1350-1400. So that's not the issue. I'd like pH to be above 8.2 peak in the daytime.

Will either of the above choices do what I need? I'm thinking the second one is overkill, since my tank is 'just' going to be 120 gals.

Thanks!

I prefer two separate chambers so you have one to buffer the effluent which helps to raise the pH a bit.

Hi Slief,

Thanks for chiming in :) . I definitely lean toward your advice since you inadertantly saved my tank (so it seems!) -- me copying your lighting! That going to be a big *** reactor :-D . I guess i'll be ready for my future 250 when that happens!
*Which do you use ? I know I can read through your thread, which I will at some point! . And i know your tank is way larger, but just for info sake at least.

You could also do the geo 612 single and get the umc420 for second chamber to save cash.

That's what I do and run reborn on the main canister and the smallest arm on the secondary.

I'm running a Geo 818 and a Geo SMC415 for the secondary reactor.
