which is the best amino acid ?

Just looked at xjoyhugo1980's tank build and apparently he adds honey to his tank. My first thought is that honey is similar to carbon dosing, but honey also contains antioxidants. So... honey = "antioxidants + carbon dosing"? I'm no chemist though.

edit:
Just found this post from another forum. Person who posted it thought it was interesting but never tried it. Here's the post:

BTW, addition of iodine and dilute honey (yes, those produced by bees) soluion is found to be helpful and efficient on maintaining the color. Sufficient amino acids which are the basic sources to build up a protein canbe found in honey. You can try to add to see if this method works!

Honey, which is rich in either sugar and amino acids, can be used as carbon source and protein synthesis source. For carbon source, might act as Vodka, should be helpful in removing nitrate and phosphate. As for the protein synthesis source, amino acids are essential compositions of proteins. Since the colors of the corals are lights emitted from the fluorecent proteins in the corals, providing sufficient amino acids should be efficient for the protein synthesis. The more the fluorecent proteins inside the corals, the intenser the color of the corals.

This is suggested and tested by myself. Any question or comment are welcome to discuss here!

Before dosing, I usually dilute the honey in fresh water in the ratio of 1:100 (honey/water). With the dilute solution prepared, 1 ml soultion is dosed per 25 gal (~100 liter). No negatives are observed to date. I start to dose honey since two years ago. Should be feasible to reef tanks. You can try this method with half the dosing amount in the beginning.

I'm going to kick this thread back up in the hopes I can get an idea of some schedule/qunatity of honey dosing. I am already running a carbon dosed system with vinegar.

I am having great results with Elos amino acids.

Thought I would follow up on this. A few months ago I stopped dosing with no noticable difference in growth or color. Each system is different, but goes to show these additives are not necessary, at least for my tank.

I've been reading up on Hugo's posts since I saw this about a month ago.

I have a 550g system that I want to dose AAs on, but am somewhat limited by my pre-set budget. I am going to try out this honey dosing thing.

I too though would love to hear more or anyone else's feedback/experiences with this.

Its funny how there is not one before and after pic here......

im going to use the kent products in a test and report my findings with pics!!!

what if i overdose on AA?? this morning my BRS doser drop about 250ml of my two little fishies Acropower...do i need water change??

woah. How big is your tank. I would check phosphate to see how it is. But water change will help with the algae you'll likely see in the very near future. Good luck

Finished a 45 day cycle on brightwells. Starting a cycle with Pohls. Can't say brightwell had a major impact on color but my alk demand went up. All acros and monti in 75g QT
