I just wanted to see what people think about these lenses, the tamron 18-250mm and the nikon 55-200mm vr. I am looking to get a lense because I like to take pictures of wildlife and my twins, I am considering these two lenses. My concern with the tamron is there is not vibration reduction and I really think I woul want that. I like the tamron because it really is one lense takes most. Can you please give me some pros and cons.

I have the 55-200 VR

the VR is excellent, the lens is pretty low end though, and is slow (but what can you expect, its only $214 shipped new from amazon)

IMO, the zoom is not quite enough for genuine wildlife photography, especially birds since they're so small......the 200 is a great zoo lens, but Ive found it not close enough for real wild life

its also pretty slow, so if you're trying to get a great bird in flight, probably not gonna happen intentionally

if your budget allows, you may be better off with the nikkor 70-300 VR for $469

that is the AF-S version, you could also get the non VR, AF version for less than $200 new if you are shooting with anything higher than a D40 and you dont care about VR, but it sounds like you're interested in the VR

That sounds like good advice to me.

A great lens would be the 70-200 but it is a beast.

The 55-200 is not going to get you much in the way of wild life. The 70-300 will be better (and on a DX camera is more like 450), but still not really LONG.

I didn't particularly care for the 55-200. Mine was not the VR and I don't use it anymore.
