which nano streams?

Hi, I plan to upgrade my powerheads in the near future and was wondering which nano streams AND how many I should pick up? I don't want to choose something that'll be over kill for my tank, so any advice would be great. I was thinking about gen 1 nano, but if anyone can convince me to go bigger (gen 2), then I'll do that.

Its for my 40 breeder tank (36X18X16) which is sps dominated with around 9 little fishes in there.

When you say Gen 1 and Gen 2 what are you referring to? I would likely go with 2 x 6045s myself if not 6055s on a controller

My sps dominant 65 is the same dimension tank except taller, 24" high. I'm currently running a 6055 on a single controller and a 6045, and the flow is good. I don't think you would need much more than 2 - 6055s or even 1-6055 and 1-6045.

I just bought a couple more 6055s and will probably take my 6045 out. I plan on running 2-6055's at full power and scale back the 3rd one.

I think 2 6055's is the minimum for an SPS tank of that size, if you did 6045's I would get at least 3.

Shawnz- I meant to say the new turbelle stream 2, being that they are smaller from what I've read so far.

I just want something simple looking and not a tank filled with power heads.

Yeldarbj do you have a picture of your tank? I'd like to see how you have the ph set up? The other thing I need to take into consideration is my fine grain sand. Will it get blown all over the place if I did two 55's?

Roger, thank you for your input. Looks like I'll have to a while before the new controller comes out. Unless, would I be able to control my future 55's (control the flow from 35% to 100%) using my aquacontroller 3?

The pumps work without a controller so it isn't a big deal to wait for a controller. I think 2 6055's is the way to go, the 6105's might work in a hard core SPS tank but they would likely need to be turned down.

Not quite the same size but here is a pic of my old 58 gallon(same foot print but taller) with two of the 6055s...... I do think the 6055s are the best choice personally.

are the currents produced by the 55's able to provide adequate circulation to the corals near the bottom?

Yes I never had any problems. I used an Eheim 1260 for a return. As well with the current bouncing off the glass and intersecting one another created plenty of "downdrafts". Had I kept the tank going I might have added a 6025 or 45 just to supplement but as it was I was happy with it.

My placement is very similar to what Shawn has:

The 6055 is on the right and runs on a single controller. The 6045 is on the left in front of the 9010 skimmer. The osmolator is in the back. If you can't tell, I'm a fan of the Tunze products. I think Roger is right, that 2-6055s would be ideal if you can do it. Even without a controller, you can adjust the flow by changing the voltage input between 12V-24V, just in case your sand starts blowing around.

I don't have any surface skimming (no overflow, no sump) so I have to keep the 6055 angled toward the surface to keep it very agitated, otherwise I end up with a lot of surface film.

I'm curious but how does one change the input between 12v-24v? Is there a switch there?

Yes there is a switch on the bottom os the PSU with 6(from memory) increments on it allowing you to set the top speed

only the 6055 which is the only DC pump of the nanos
