Which Nanostream to get?

I just found out about these powerheads and have decided I'm going to get a pair. The only question is which ones.

I have a 56 gallon tank. It's only 30" long (30x18x24), so I don't need flow for a 4 foot tank like a standard 55.

I plan to have SPS high on the reef and therefore want two Nanostreams, one for each rear corner.

Would the 6025's with their 660 GPH be enough for this application? Or would I be better off with the 6045's?

I should note I'm planning to keep a Maxijet 1200 running behind the reef to circulate the bottom of the tank.

Pete,

I saw these first hand at the show in Germany they are very cool!

The Nanostreams are new so no hobby examples exist as yet but from what I saw at Interzoo and experience with the bigger model streams I would think the 6045 for heavy SPS allthough you said SPS just on the top of the reef so Roger may have another suggestion.

The ideal really is the 6055, since they are controllable and this allows more random flow, they can be pulsed and alternated.

The 6045 is OK, but they will not be suitable for conventional wavemakers and cannot be controlled.

Hi Graeme :)

I'd love to get the 6055's and controller, but they are out of my price range.

What about one 6045 and one 6025? Ideally I want most of the current in the upper portion of the tank. I want the lower portion to have softer current for my LPS's and softies.

I also have a day/night timer, so I could have them both running during the day, then run one at night for reduced current.

No, last week of September is the target date for the 6025 and 6045, early Dec for the 6055.

2 6045 on a timer would be best.

Hey Pete, are you sure your tank is 30" long, not 36"? 36X18 is a pretty standard footprint. Just wondering.

Yup, it's definitely only 30 inches long. It's a Perfecto 56 gallon, and the footprint is only 30x18. An odd tank size, but perfect for where I have it right now.

Last question: If I went with two 6045's, would that make the extra Maxi-Jet 1200 at the base of the reef redundant? IOW, could I get away with just the two 6045's in a 24" tall tank?
