which of these skimmers is best for in sump use?

"out of these models, which would be the best for use in a 30g sump"

What matters is the size of your tank, and what you intend to put in it.

it will be a 125g, with mixed varietys of softies and lps(if i dare, maybe sps) and assorted reef safe fishes. the guy at my LFS said that the turbofloters were the best, but it says it would recomend some special piping and pump. is this true?

125 gal tank, D. none of the above
Check out asm skimmers or other needle wheel type skimers, the ones you picked out are old technology. and I wouldn't trust any of them to work good for a tank over 55 gal tops
Do somemore searching on reef central you'll find out alot of good info, don't skimp on your skimmer is my advice.

I put a asm g3 on my 125 and it does an awesome job. Im running my str out of the box with no mods, and love it. Go to the equipment forum and search for the asm thread it has tons of info.

Notice how when you disclosed the size of your tank the direction of the thread changed?

Take the posters advice - they are trying to save you money. If you buy one of the original 3 you posted, you'll be unhappy and your tank will be unhappy also.

Sometimes you have to spend money to save money. That's true in this case, cuz if you buy one of those it'll end up in the closet.

Any of the skimmers Craig Lambert mentioned will serve you well. Look for a used one if funds are tight (aren't they always?)

If it's in your budget do not skimp on the skimmer quality. An ASM G3 would be a sweet skimmer for the price and I doubt you would regret it. :)

Another vote for the ASM G3. I just added one to replace an Aqua C Remora and the difference in skimmate is incredible.

My turboflotor seems to smoke all the ASM G2/G3s I've seen.

90% of skimmer use is how well its installed, and where its getting its water from.

Kreiger, the Turboflotor IS a needlewheel skimmer. It uses an OR 2700 pump.

really? see, now i'm confused :( i hear about ASM G3's, but i also here that turbofloters are great. is it really how well you install it that matters( and wehre it gets water from?)

the G3 is a slightly bigger skimmer than the turboflotor, but I think the turbo is a better design.

The most important thing is constant water level in the skimmer compartment, and feeding it dirty water.
