which of these Triggers is least likely to eat small fish?

Even Xanthichthys species triggers may eat small fish... I've seen it first hand.

My guy has attitude but doesn't hurt any other tank mates. However, while in QT, he did almost kill a clown. Therefore, the clown was quickly moved. My tangs keep my niger in check.

The Pink Tail Triggers seem to be a bit more peaceful IMO/IME. I wouldn't put it past him to eat bristleworms, seeing as though many triggers eat almost anything, but I cannot say for sure. I have never seen it with my own eyes.

As stated before, once they grow it could be an entirely different story, and every fish is different, just like people. Some Pink Tails will be more peaceful, some will be generally more aggressive. You have to see the interaction between the fish's tank mates in the LFS (if you don't get it online). It will give you at least some idea of how aggressive it is.

wait until the niger grows larger....then he will keep everyone else in check.

I agree. Sooner or later, Niger's will become much more aggressive. I've seen it several times with my own fish. The Niger I got as a Juvi after moving will now eat almost any thin bodied fish of about 3" or less.

My cousin had a pink tail in his tank and that guy was mean! He was very aggressive toward other aggressive type fish and would always try to bite him. He ended up taking it back to the fish store.

I would say the pinktail is the best bet, though, as noted, any of them can do it. If you can find a cobalt niger, they're a little more peaceful, and probably as safe as the pinktail (more of a slate-gray color, and only from Sumatra, IIRC).
I've had both the pinktail and black durgon eat bristleworms. I've only had the niger do it if the worms in the water column, either from spawning or from me stirring things up in the tank.

Look at the Nigers and blue jaws in Dave's 800 gallon:

Crosshatch and Sargassum?

I watched my female Crosshatch devour a healthy Green Chromis alive. The very next week, I found exactly one half of my Flame Hawk lying in the branches of its favorite coral perch. Both Crosshatches were gone immediately after. Wouldn't take one now for free.

That's why I said "less likely", and not "could never happen".

clearly understood. I think we all understand ANY Trigger might potentially devour a small tankmate. I have experience with a large Niger. My cleaner shrimps were introduced before the Trigger and the fish never bothered them but any small fish became sushi.

Yep, I can't add new shrimp and any new, small, fish becomes sushi.
