hi guys,

I would like to know which fish is the best algae eater to pick and clean on liverocks.

Foxface or bristlestooth tangs?

thank you

Any algae you are specifically trying to keep in control? Bristletooths are more for diatoms type algaes than the removal of thick macro's. Foxfaces will eat more algae but are a risk if you are keeping corals.

For hair algae run a phosphate reactor or just use Chemipure Elite in your filter bag if you cannot have a reactor.

Snails and hermits beat any fish as algae killer. Especially hermits tend to scrape the rocks nice and clean. On snails, turbos worked well for me, though the best are the little limpets that sometimes come with life rock.

Fish usually just keep nuisance algae short but they won't eradicate them.

None of my fish will eat GHA if it has been allowed to grow long. Most of my tangs will eat it if it is short and cropped already.

I believe that you are running a 75 gallon tank. In that case, your options are more limited due to space constraints, and would rule out a foxface.

The GFO Fish ;)

Our tangs don't even touch the stuff unless they're desperate... and even then it doesn't make a dent.

Had some popup after the GFO had expired just recently... caught a YB Blue Tang picking at it... but it's right in the path of a RW20, so he didn't stay long.

Had a really bad outbreak of GHA and GFO cleared it right up.

i have a fowlr with a trigger so cant put any hermits and snails

i know its excess of nutrients and i try to fix the prob

GFO is your friend, trust me. It's pretty cheat to get a reactor and media as well.

Might want to also read up on carbon dosing if you want to keep the nutrients down and feed a lot.

Sea hares are probably the best hair algae eater out there, plus your fish won't bother it.

Having said that, species to species they all eat different things. Plus each animal is different. I've heard that hares won't eat chaeto and love nori. My hare munches on my chaeto and won't touch nori.

It's really a craps shoot specimen to specimen. But if you find one that likes hair algae, it will be gone in a week because these things eat whatever they like constantly.

See if you LFS will get you one and take a chance. Just be mindful of your power heads so they don't make mince meat out of it. Just know that when the algae it likes is gone you will either have to try different stuff until you find something it will eat, or find someone else who has the same problem and pass him on, otherwise he will starve to death.

As said before though. The algae is just a symptom of a problem with excess nutrients. You need to address that before worrying about the HA.
