Which one?

Hey all, thinking which fish to put in the aquarium first, Toby puffer or dwarf lionfish? Options are welcome.
So far going into the tank next week I have

pair of percula clowns
One spot Foxface
Purple firefish

The dwarf lions at Lfs are very small, obviously they would grow.

Clean up crew not added yet that be next week when the fish go in, no point having them in there yet, nothing to clean.

300l juwel rio
40kg sand
40kg live rock
Tmc v2 skim 500 compact hob skimmer
1000lph filter pump
Filter floss
Carbon
2 x 2800 lph circulation pumps (fluval sea 3, hydor koralia 3200)

What sized tank? Are you planning on adding any coral or just FOWLR?

Also I would personally stagger the fish addition a little bit to give the biological filtration a chance the slowly ramp up instead of risking a shock to the system by adding 5 fish plus a clean up crew all at once.

Sorry, 300 litres is 80g. Going to be fowlr tank. I will stagger them after the transfer from my nano tank I'm just wondering which to go for next. I want both puffer and dwarf lion but in which order? Was going to go for snowflake eel as well but bit put off that it might destroy my rock build. Otherwise it looks very cool and definitely something I'd consider.

Oh sorry, I saw Rio and thought it was a pump.

I've had 2 Tobys, my Valentini puffer was my favorite by far. I've also had a dwarf lionfish, he was OK, they are pretty fish, but mine always just stuck under rocks and I got stung once. I've also had a snowflake eel and I would recommend against it with your stocking list so far, I don't think your firefish would last very long haha

I would 100% go with the Toby first, great fish, but mine loved eating zoas and nipping Lps so FOWLR all the way.

Thanks for the information, very helpful.
What sort of cuc would you recommend?

If you get the Toby I would do a little heavy on the cuc, mine was a super messy eater.
If you are OK with crabs in your cuc I would recommend some blue legs to help with the larger meaty crumbs the puffer with generate, just make sure you have extra shells for them to trade up to it they will kill your snails. I also love Nassarius snails for the same reason.

Blue legs over red? OK that's cool. I love nassarius snails. They are so fab when they emerge from the sand.
Thank you for help it's awesome to chat with someone who has been there and done it.

I'm glad someone else appreciates them, seeing them appear is one of my favorite parts of feeding time.
You'd probably be fine with red or even a thin stripped in a FOWLR, but they are a little large for my taste... Figure the smaller ones would cause less damage if they went rogue.

Emerald crabs are also cool to watch, but most people only get them if they have a bubble algea problem.

Going to add the clowns and Foxface first with a few crabs, I have a couple of small red legs In my nano. Wait a few days before the fire fish and snails. Wait another week before I get a puffer. Think thats the plan.
Quick question for you, if I did get a dwarf lion later too would you recommend a fish that hangs out in small group that would finish the tank? I read leopard wrasse like to go in 3s or more, anything else?

Be careful with a firefish and a lion. they will eat anything that fits in their mouth. At best the firefish will hide all of the time to keep away, worst case...expensive snack.

I would second the warning about the lion and the firefish... If I were you I would get another firefish or 2 to make a little group of them and then get a royal gramma or a goby to get some action down around the rockwork

I thought fire fish would fight with other fire fish? I'd like a little group of fish to hang out together, was leaning towards group of wrasse but don't know which ones.
If I didn't go for lionfish what nice bottom dweller could I have? Obviously some kind of goby, anything else?

I'm sorry, that was bad advise, you could maybe get 2 fire fish. I have a yellowfin flasher wrasse that I really like. You could get a male and a couple females and they will get along.
I don't know what your fish total would be at that point, I think you'd be getting up there though
