Pet Paradise in Downers Grove

Pet Paradise in Downers Grove

Last week I went to Pet Paradise in Downers Grove. At first I was terribly disapointed because in the main room they have lots of freshwater tanks and along the back wall some saltwater isolation cubes. I was about to walk out disapointed when I found the back room. I found eight coral tanks with a decent selection and more saltwater fish than I ever seen in a single pet shop. If you in the market for fish. I would look here. They are well stocked, or at least they were at the time of this post. :D

some great stores listed here...but just one comment about living sea

i have purhased from them for the last 3 years. they do have high quality specimens, in fact i have yet to see better

but the employees that work there are just downright ignorant

it seems to me that they care more about money than they do about anything else....i wish i could find a place to buy from with the same quality, i hate giving them my money

my 2 cents

my 2 cents

I swear by Living Sea for freshwater. Art rocks, and has given me great deals.

Salt is another matter, though. I had voted for Living Sea a couple weeks ago but can't seem to be able to cast antoher or change my vote, so hear this:

I am now a devoted customer of Coral Reef Pet Shop in Norridge. Here's my story:

Last week, while doing a water change, my Filstar 2 cannister cracks. I only notice hours later when water is filling my cabinet. Lucky I checked the Protein Skimmer.

Anyway, nobody has Filstars. Nobody. But they did. I went and told Jim my story as he was getting it. He first told me to call the company, but I said I couldn't afford to wait a week for them to get me a replacement. I was about to pay when he told the cashier to wait. He called his distributor, who told him to replace the filter for me.

AND I HAD NEVER BEEN IN THE SHOP BEFORE!!!

Today I went and bought a bunch of fish from him, some great deals (f/w clown loaches, med sized -- over 2.5" -- for under $7. salt snails for a buck. perculas for $14, decent sized). And he's trying to special order berghias for me too.

Their stock wasn't terrific on fish, but today is Sunday.

As for sho tank, it is far from me, and their in-store supply is limited, but Matt is extremely helpful. I got a CBB that didn't make it and he's giving me credit the next time I stop in.

New CMAS Sponsor

New CMAS Sponsor

For those of you whom like to order some items online. I wanted to let you know that I have been corresponding with a Gentleman named Darin of Marine Aquatic in Wisconsin who runs www.captivereefs.com. He has agreed to provide CMAS Members with an 8% discount on all items purchased from him and if volume warrants it he will increase that amount over time.

I have worked it out with him so that we can post his website on the CMAS.net website and in our newsletter, however we have devised a process that requires members to fax a copy of their current CMAS Membership Card to him referencing their order number to qualify for the discount and prevent non-members from abusing the discount code which is simply CMAS.

Here is his information:

Marine Aquatic ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ www.captivereefs.com

To qualify for the CMAS discount members need to do the following:

1. Visit www.captivereefs.com
2. Submit an order.
3. Enter CMAS as the coupon code.
4.Once you have received an order confirmation, fax a copy of your current membership card and reference the order confirmation number to receive the 8% discount

Where is Sho-Tank? What is it like?

Sho Tank Aquariums
545 N. Lake St.
Mundelein, IL 60060
(847) 949 8265

It is is mundelein on route 45 just by the route 176 intersection. I personally really like the place. The only problem is it isn't very big so he doens't have too much equipment on hand but can order and get it a week later. His prices on almost everything is very cheap as compared to other places I have been. He has small tanks for his fish but they are not there very long. His live rock also isn't the best but about the same as all the other lfs. Also the live stock is usually in fairly good condition. My buddy has bought a number of fish from him and they are still doing well and thriving.

Hey all,

Just thought i'd put in a good word for Jeff from Ocean Technologies (username marshall mann). On another thread he was kind enough to offer me some live sand and rock rubble to jumpstart my fuge.

He had a bunch of nice live rock, fish, and corals.... espicially a bunch of clowns and anemones.

Re: Pet Paradise in Downers Grove

Re: Pet Paradise in Downers Grove

Always a large selection of fish at the store and the disease prevention is different than most store which includes siphoning all the salt fish tanks daily so there is no chance of the disease to be able to multiply. i have tried fish from most of the other pet stores and i always come home to an incredibly diseased fish after a few days in my quarintine tank. (Scott's Pet Shop in 2nd to worest and Living Seas is the absolute worest disease wise.) All the fish that i have gotten from Pet Paradise a disease free and live a long happy life.

Were is Ocean Technologies? (Apologies if it is way back in this thread, I didn't go back to page 1:-)

BTW, as of yesterday's CMAS picnic we have a committee, headed by Paul Kolinda, to <b>coordinate CMAS Supporting Dealers</b>. IIRC he is going to start by checking with all current stores to make sure they are still supporting us, get their web site addresses and remind them they can get a free business card size ad in the newsletter once a year. If anyone wants to recruit a new store (like Ocean Technologies or Sho Tank Aquariums), Paul would be the person to inform/coordinate with.

I'll start another post on this sometime soon. We have first 5 meetings lined up also. We still need a publicity person, a raffle person and maybe something else I don't remember. Or volunteer to do something new that you'd like to see done!

It's in Mundelein (sp?), that's all I know. A couple people have told me it's an awesome place though.

Where in Downers is Pet Paradise? I just lost another fish that I bought from Scott's and I'd like to find another place. I'm in Berwyn, just two blocks from Ogden and I have a fair knowledge of Downers. The only other place that I've been was Living Seas, but haven't in awhile cuz I lost my job which was about 10 minutes away from there.

Nevermind... looked up a Downers Grove website with it's location posted.
