Which pump for a 90 gallon?

Hey guys, im planning to setup a 90 sps and lps system soon and wanted to possibly do a closed loop but Im at a loss at which pump to get.

Which pump would you recommend? There are oodles of selections out there but Im clueless of how many gph I need or what brand is reliable and good performer. Please give me some advice. I will also be using supplemental powerheads like Tunzes or Koralia. Thanks

You could do a sequence dart and that would be almost 40x turnover minus head loss, or the snapper which would be less, but I think they may run w/ a little more noise than the dart.
I'd probably do the dart and T it to feed fuge or something.

But as far as the pump gph goes, what number should I be shooting for? Is there a brand out there that I should look out for or are they all the same?

I run the sanpper on my 100 no noise and puts out some nice flow.

the advice above was perfect. I would run the dart personally, but the snapper is also a good choice. If you run the dart with something like an OM 4-way, I doubt you will need tunzes. IMO, they are a little big for your tank unless you go with the nano tunes This is in terms of realestate and not flow.

didnt see the closed loop part... LFS recommended the pump, is it that bad? its still NIB and i can return it, what pump should i get for a in sump return

For submerged I would go eheim or ocean runner. The rios had a bad string of pumps that nuked tanks. Rumor is they fixed that issue, but their track record still remains poor IMO.

Ditch the closed loop and get two Vortechs. You could probably get rid of any small nano-streams or Koralias you have in that case.

If you go with a submergered pump, an Eheim 1262 will get you somewhere in the neighborhood of 900 GPH or roughly 10 turns per hour. The Eheim pumps are expensive, but I've found them to be very, very reliable.

I am in the process of setting up a very similar 90gal tank. I have decided to go with the Eheim 1262 as a return pump for many reasons.(Noise, power, reliability and heat) Also the drain can only handle so much flow. Supplemental flow will be provided by at least two Tunze 6055's controlled by an Aquasurf.(as soon as its available) If the flow is not enough at that point I will probably add another pair of either 6055's or 6000's. Depending on the depth of my canopy I would like to secure two of the nanostreams in the front corners add direct them down/ back into the front of the reef. As its not set up yet I can't say for sure that this works. Good luck!
