Which Skimmer between these three?...

I've narrowed my choice of a new skimmer based on sump size and my budget to these three...would appreciate any suggestions on which one to choose:

1. Reef Octopus NWB 150 Needle Wheel Protein Skimmer
2. Vertex IN-100 Internal Pinwheel Protein Skimmer
3. Bubble-Magus NAC6 Skimmer

Tough choice... but I own #1 for my new ~80G system and I'm very glad that I bought it, excellent/reliable skimmer! :)

I would say 1 or 3 but personally i would go with 1 but the extreme series, 2 isnt a bad skimmer it is just that the pump runs hot and takes high wattage....

I have a vertex and it is built extremely well except for the resun pump. It is a pile. But I think I have a gen 1 and I dont know if gen 2's are any better.

I currently have a Red Sea Berlin skimmer so I think any three of them will be a major upgrade for me. The Red Sea works ok but there just isn't that much "volume" inside the skimmer where the bubbles are churning...when I look at these other skimmers, the entire diameter of the skimmer is occupied by microbubbles.

i have a NW-150 on my 125 reef and its amazing. then i meshmoded and ran the airline into the skimmer cup for the moist air and now its godlike!

i would do the DNWB-150 from premium aquatics. it has the new transition design and they are nice skimmers. it should have no issue handling you tank, plus they come with a new pinwheel that boosts performance. imo the in100 would be maxed on your system, and i dont know much about the bubble magnus to say weather or not they are any good.

From what I understand, the DNWB and NWB are the exact same except that the DNWB can be run externally?

I vote for the NAC6. I have one and it is doing great! Maybe look into the NAC7 cone for a little bigger system.

You wouldnt use a IN100 you would want a IN180.....

The IN180 or the NAC6 out of those 3.

There are some others out there SWC, new octo super reef line, ect. You said only out of these 3 tho. Did you want other suggestions as well?

If it fits within my size contraints (8"x14") and my budget $225 max...then absolutely would hear other considerations.

The Verex wont work the smaller one is too small for your tank and the right size is too big for your sump.

Little over your price range but great skimmers:

SWC Xtreme 160 Protein Skimmer (maybe its 8.5 inches wide.)
SWC Xtreme 160 Cone Protein Skimmer
Eshopps S-150*
Super Space Saver Octopus XP-2000SSS Cone (way over your budget but would be perfect for your tank size with a heavy load)
Super Reef Octopus 2000 (its 8.5 inches wide as well.)

Thats pretty much all Im seeing. There are of course the BK mini line but they are way out of your price range. Personally I would save a bit more money up then go with the space saver octo cone, but thats just me.

I have a used a IN-100 for over a year, and it has been amazing- it is true the pump really is not the best, but functionality and for the cash I think it's the best. I had it run my 150 for a while and it produce awesome skimmate - i was really impressed when i told a few vendors i was thinking of upgrading to one rated closer to my tank parameters- most said "why? if it's pulling out nasty stuff, let it be..no leftover organics or problems???" This was premiumaquatics

I did end up getting the IN-180 Vertex and the pump so far is even quiter- i really like the quality for the cash on Vertex and if you really want to beef it up down the road you can always swap out the pump to have a unbelievable skimmer

good luck hope my 2 cents helps
