which skimmer

I have a xp1000sss that is brand new, still in the box, never opened. 294 retail + tax, which should put it around 315 or so. I would let it go for 270 shipped.
 
I know it is not the answer to your question, but imo you should do a vertex IN 180. I had the sro 1000 in my 40B and for me it flat out sucked. It would either skim nothing, or flood the cup rapidly. After about 6 weeks of this someone in my reef club offered to buy it and i used that cash for an IN 100. Best skimmer ive ever owned. Ive owned two octopus skimmers and an msx. This vertex is better then them all. Even though the vertex doesnt have a gate valve, the pipe you twist is extremely accurate in the skimmers water level. HTH. :)
 
I have this SRO RO - PS 3000 with the bubble blaster pump on my 120 with a 75 gallon sump works great. had it for 2 months was considering selling it to get a vetex Royal exclusive 200. I still have the boxes manuals and everything it came with. I would consider it for a fair offer. but ill live with it as a back up when I get my vertex instead of desperatly trying to get way less then its worth.
 
Whats your bioload like? I have had the 1000 on my 75 and love it. I ended up buying the XP3000 external for my 225 build.

On a side note if the cup is overflowing, you have to reduce the water the skimmer is sitting in. The 1000's like about 4.5-5.5" of water.

octopus says it like 6-10" of water. Mine was in 6" of water, i tried multiple different ways to stop it from vomitting, it never stopped. A lot of folks in my reeef club said thwy had the same problem. OP, as soon as i plugged my vertex in i could tell it was a better skimmer, it was also much quieter.

Yep I can tell you from first hand experience that 6-10" is way off. I had the same issues for quite a while. Glad you are happy with your purchase though.
 
mine is in 7 inches of water does not overflow unless maybe I do something in the sump that stirs everything up but stays stable have not come home to an overflow or anything yet. I have 14 fish in my tank, but most are very small all but 1 tang,a large cleanup crew maybe 20 trouchus snails, 4 mexican turbos 25ish astrea, 30-40 nassarius, maybe 25 hermits different types I have approx 250 lbs of live rock alot is in my 75 gallon sump I got the larger skimmer because I had one rated for 150 gallons on my 41 gallon setup and it worked great so I figured I would go overkill again
 
I know you're looking at Octopus skimmers but I am using a Bubble Magus NAC7 on my 125 and I absolutely love it. They are very reasonably priced too. The performance to cost ratio is higher than any skimmer I've personally seen.
