Which SLR combination?

I recently sold my rebel XT and want to upgrade to a newer rebel. I have narrowed my decision to the Rebel XSI w/ 18-55 IS lens and canon 55-250mm IS lens for 850$ or just going with the Rebel XS with IS kit lens and buying a separate canon macro 100mm lens. any ideas? what is soo much better about the XSI compared to the XS other than mega pixel?

I used to own the Rebel XT and while it was a good camera I like my 40D better. The 40D feels much better as it is a bigger body and you can access most settings (ISO, aperture, shutter, focus, drive) quickly from dials or buttons which means you can change some while the camera is at your face rather than going through the menus. That said my brother just bought the new Rebel and he is very happy with it. Looks like the both the lens you mentioned are okay for a kit lens so it depends on what you plan on shooting. With the 1.6 crop factor 55mm is going to be like 88mm which may not be wide enough if you like landscape shots. If you only plan on shooting close up tank shots I can't say enough good things about the 100mm macro.

Edit: I just re-read your post and you are getting both lens and the body for $850.00? That sounds like a pretty good deal to me!

Don't buy the XS - that's the only DSLR on the market that I can't recommend. They dumbed down the controls so far that it's almost unusable in anything but full automatic. It has nothing to do with megapixels. The XSi is a much more capable camera.

I would go with an XSi and no lens and buying separate lens. Neither one os=f those included lenses are very good.

I like the 17-55 f/2.8 IS a whole lot, what a rockin' lens. If you are going to stick with crop bodies, it is easily one of the best. I love the 24-70 f/2.8 though. :)

Great choice! You are going to want a tripod to get the most out of your 100mm f/2.8. A tripod will help you get the most out of *any* lens, but a true macro lens works especially well with a tripod.

already have a decent one.....i think it is atleast....

its a vivitar ....idk the model but its nice i think! haha

heres a macro shot i took with my old 18-55 lens that i took off and held backwards infront of my XT, not great, but still fun haha
