Which tank is better for a pair of maroon clowns?

Hi everyone, I'm in the middle of moving and since I'm tearing the tanks down anywho I'm replacing my annoyingly deep tanks with different tanks. I will have a 45G cube and a 30G 30" long tank. Which tank is the better choice for the nano reef and which would work best for the maroons? (Who will be alone since they eat all of their buddies) any suggestions?

Yes what he said^^ maroon in the biggest tank you got. They get very territorial, specially with an anemone. You wont be able to have anything else later.

My maroon wont even let a purple tang near his half of 100gal

I just got rid of my pair because "she" Queen "B" was destroying my tank by moving corals and trying to cover my huge Elegance coral with sand.

As I suspected. They're fine right now in my 37G tall but I hate that tank. Maybe if I took out the sand which they're always digging up. They're both beautiful and annoying at the same time. Should I try a tank without substrate perhaps?

Im glad you did, i love them :D

However where they are at there isnt much they can destroy unless they wanna kill the gsp which i would be happy with lol

Ya Norman, it sure wouldn't hurt anything to remove the sand. I would do it a little bit at a time though so you don't raise nitrates or ammonia too high. You get all kinds of nasties when removing sand. Just suck it out with a long hose into a bucket for minimal stirring up of the tank.

Ya Sam, that tank is perfect for them

I kept a pair for breeding purposes in a 80 liter (20 US gal) tank and they did fine in there.
Though that was a barren tank with no other fish in there.

A 40B would probably ideal if you want to keep them by themselves or with some fish they will ignore (e.g. gobies) or that are equally mean and also quick and agile enough to avoid getting killed by them (e.g. larger dottybacks)

Thanks all for your replies. Since I purchased two new tanks for the move (I had two very tall tanks both of which I've learned to despise); I will be moving the live rock over to the new tanks so there is no problem digging the sand up.

I've purchased a 45G cube and a 29G tank (30x12x18). I'm thinking that I'll try the clowns in the smaller tank for now as they really didn't utilize the entire 37G anyways. I will revisit the issue as they grow... I have always wanted to set up a cube as a reef and with these two footprints I can still use my light fixtures.

I have a big island of Zoe's. I am wondering if they can host Zoe's? I'll give it a shot. I'll leave the clown tank bare bottom since their digging up the substrate drove me nuts.

Would a six line wrasse survive with these two bullies?

Also, would my bicolour Benny get along with my watchman goby ok In the cube?
