Which tank to use?

Hi,
I am planning on setting up a seahorse tank with 4 mustangs from oceanrider. I currently have 2 tanks to chose from:
1) 30-35 gallon 24"wide x 20" deep x 18" high
2) 30 gallon 24"wx12-1/2"wx24high

Would either of these work, or which one would be better. I have also thought of ordering a new tank 24"x19"x21"high

Thanks for any help.

Hi Kim,

It all depends on how you're planning on aquascaping your tank. A 20" depth gives you more room for live rock.... you can arrange it to give much more swimming room than a tank with only a 12" depth.

Unless breeding is a main priority, either tank will do. I've actually had Erectus (Mustangs) breed in a tank much less than 18". Where there is a will - there is a way! ;)

Vertical swimming room is important, however, horizontal swimming room is important as well. My horses always used the entire tank area, motoring around and grabbing onto different hitches.

As I said, either tank would work....it's all a matter of your preference.

I feel like I should pitch in and say none of these tanks work just to fill out the full range of options and confuse you even more. ;)

I would agree that either tank will work. Deeper tanks (front to back) give more options for aquascaping, taller tanks help with the breeding.

Your choice.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I decided to go ahead and order yet another tank for both depth and width :). I mean, can you ever have too many tanks?

I think maybe you can have too many tanks... we've got at least 15 going in the house (14x60 mobilehome) and six waiting outside... and one being held at the LFS 'cuz we got nowhere to put it.

But I think you made an excellent choice.

Do you think hubby and I are just a teeny bit obsessive??? LOL

But we do have limits. We only have one tank in the bathroom (guppies) and I absolutely refused to let him get rid of the couch to make room for a tank... ok, we did change to a love seat so one more would fit. Maybe we need professional help.
