Which way would you do it

okay as some of you know I am building my tank stand so that the tank sits off the wall while the stand is against the wall.

Therefore the back part of the stand will have a hinged lid for easier access to some of the tank equipment.

Question is with the lid for the back being on the stand should I add a board to the top front so that when the lid is closed the bottom edge of the tank is even with it or just let the tank set below the lid.

There is a trim board going all the way around the top of the stand but it must be even with the bottom of the tank (in order for the canopy I already have to match.

Which way would look better in the long term. I need to know as I need to add the extra board now or not at all.

I'm not sure I understand what your doing but I'll try to help. Your stand is basically going to be bigger in depth(front to back) than your tank is, right? The tank will be "pushed forward" and the extra space will be in the back? And you wanting to put a lid on it? It kinda hard to visualize what you saying a photo would help......

If I could take a photo taz I would already know what I was doing. the back part will definately have a lid

question is should I put a board around the front where the tank sits so that the bottom of the tank trim is even with the top of the lid on the back or even with the bottom of the lid where the lid lays on the top of the stand.

I think I have decided to just let it be even with the bottom of the lid where it meets the top of the stand.

Mary, don't know that this answers your question or not but I think that the tank will look better if the trim on the bottom of the tank is "hidden" by the stand._ therefore the lid and the boards running around the stand would be even with the top of the trim ring....placing the lid and the boards around the tank at the same height all the way around the tank....

I thought about doing that, but the canopy does not hide the top trim as my old stand did not. I don't want to rebuild the camopy so I wasn't going that route. But mostly because I know how much water runs down the front of my tank and it would end up just being a water resevoir and that would mot be good.
