Which wrasse: Blue flasher or Yellow Fin Fairy?

I've had my eyes on a McCosker's, but they're out of stock now, and I need to order ASAP so I'll have enough time to QT before we leave on vacation.

Looking at what's currently in stock (and will fit in my 55g), it'll be either a Blue Flasher or Yellow Fin Fairy wrasse.

Does anyone have either of these? Any advice on choosing between the two?

Current tank inhabitants are 3 Pajama Cardinals and 1 Tailspot Blenny, along with a few softies.

Of the two you list I'd get a blue flasher. I you meant to say yellowfin FLASHER instead of yellowfin fairy I'd get the yellow fin flasher. For me a McCoskers would edge out a Yellowfin Flasher.

I mostly agree with Baldguy. I'd pick the Blue Flasher over the Yellowfin Fairy. But I'd pick a Yellowfin Flasher over the Blue, Carpenter's or McCosker's Flasher. The yellow anal fin really stands out when they flash.

I ended up with the Blue Flasher. He was very out of it after shipping (laying on side in a PVC elbow for most of the first day), but he's out and zipping around in the QT tank nicely now.

Yellow fin flasher is my second favorite flasher wrasse, just behind the Red Tail flasher. You made the right choice IMO, the yellow fin fairy is nice but the Blue flasher is much prettier.

Good choice with the Blue Flasher Wrasse. I hope he does well in your care. Make sure to get more Flasher and Fairy Wrasses to keep him company!

Have you seen the recently described Red Filamented Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus paineorum)? It look like a hybrid between a Yellow-fin and either a Blue or Filamented Flasher. I have both the Red Filamented and the Yellow-fin and the Red Filamented has even nicer coloring, at least between my two.

No I haven't! I'll Google it. I still drool over that picture of the Red Tail (that's very non typical for the species).

Edit: found the picture of the paineorum....beautiful. Looks like a filamented/yellow fin combo like you said!
