The pier's really been built up over the last 20 years.
We used to take the bus to the beach in the summer and go out around lifeguard station 18 (about 2 south of the pier). The pier back then had an arcade, a couple of shops, and fishing.
What a change a generation can make. We went mostly during the summer of 5th and 6th grade in a group of 3-6 kids on a 5 mile bus trip (25 cents) with no parents or cell phones. Can't see that happening today.
One thing that has not changed is that the water does not get very cold (maybe 60 in the winter) but also does not get very warm (once it got to 71 in the summer). We used to stay in the water until our legs started cramping up and it was hard to swim. Then you'd come out and warm up a little and repeat.:spin1:
