White Condi Anemone

I bought an anemone from a private seller. The base/body is very white and the tentacles turn to a brown as they get closer to the tips. The seller told me this was beneficial algea that turns them to the brownish color. Can anyone confirm this information for me? The brownish color has moved down the tentacle a little now and the main body is more brown now. Also, I am doing a reef 120. Is this anemone going to be a problem? Thanks in advance.

Zooanthallae is an algae that lives within corals and anemones. that being said, Condi anemones are from the Atlantic Ocean, where there are no Clownfish. Clownfish will not naturally use a Condi as a host and a Condi is as likely to eat fish as to host them.

Sounds about right for a Condy. They tend to be white, and then darken depending on lighting conditions. As long as it isn't entirely white all over you should be fine.

Condi's do host some fish. I believe a blenny and possibly a damselfish.

They don't naturally host clownfish, but they will sometimes accept them. One of the LFS's near me has had pretty good luck with Tomato's and Maroon's. They just toss a small one into a small holding tank with a Condy and they match up. I've also heard of people having success with some of the damselfish that'll live in anemones.

The problem with Condy's is that, while they will host some fish, we don't commonly keep their preferred fish. So anything that does move in is more of tolerated, rather then welcomed. But they aren't really any more dangerous to tank inhabitants then any other anemone. It's just that clownfish isn't exempt from their menu that creates the impression that they are more dangerous.
