This is what I have been battling, for some time now.

By the way, the slime on the cleaning pad is my picture, sent to the Author, not from a Boca Raton tank...

Gnarly goop that! My condolences having that in your tank. That sucks.

After reading the article, maybe you should get rid of any plug in deodorizers and stop setting fire to them! :)

That looks a lot like a nasty slime that I found in my koi pond 9 years ago during a heat wave right before all my fish died in about 24 hours while I was away.

If the slime is produced by a bacteria, then perhaps an antibiotic would kill it. Finding the right one would be the challenge. There's always bleach... (NO! Don't do it!)

Manual removal and water changes might possibly cut down on it. It seems as though there might be an overabundance of some substance which provides a beneficial environment for its growth. Being most likely not an algae, I'm guessing light doesn't factor into it.

No plug ins for years, not since I discovered what they did to a plastic table cloth and oak table when one leaked, melted the tablecloth, removed the finish on the oak.
The common thing was the Dry Carpet Cleaning. We had this done prior to moving into the house, and I cleaned the living room with it the week I assembled the Elos.
I have been doing big water changes, and manual removal. But the stuff is a real bear.
Clogs the filter socks, comes loose and blows around.

oooh man that looks rough....never seen that before..you better get that checked out. There is always a new STD going around (something totally disgusting)... looks like you got a bad case of the new one. Let us know what you find out.

PS are u running GFO and carbon...i'd try that
