white snails on my maxima .

Im assuming these coned shaped white snails are pyramids . The clam seems to be stressed all of a sudden . He was fine for a few months and just in the last week he has been not fully extended and now I see white cone snails . This must be the problem right ? Whats the best way to get rid of them ? I heard 6 line wrasse but Im not sure I want one in my tank . Any other options ? The clam is small maybe 2inchs .

Any help would be appreciated .

some wrasses will eat pyrams but pyrams feed at night and wrasses sleep at night so at best a wrasse will only control them.

the best way to get rid of them is to remove the clam from the tank to a bowl of tank water about 1 or 2 hours after lights out. take a toothbrush and brush the shell really well. do this 3x a week for a month (brush the shell even if you dont see any snails, this will remove any egg's or very small snails you cant see). after a month of that you can slow down to brushing once a week for another 2 months, then just check for snails every week or so and if you see any then start brushing again

aother thing, if you have any cleaner snails in the tank, pyrams will feed on them also.

my best advice is to remove the clam to a QT and place him on a PVC pipe section. also remove all snails form the tank. this will starve out any snails in the tank. they retreat to dark areas around the clam area while the lights are on.

with the clam in the QT, clean as mentioned above. you will easily see the pyrams during the day because the will hide inside the PVC pipe, thats the dark spot.

leave the display tank clam/snail free for 8 weeks and you should be cleaned. this way you wont have a reocurring pyram problem.
