i know that they are the same species but can you pair the two together? I have a 4 inch female and was looking to get a 1-1.5 male to attempt to put pair together. all i can find of smaller size is a white stripe. i know about the safe space for the smaller one to help acclimate to the dominance of the female. and is there a certain age or size that would make it female, " for example if a 1 inch maroon in a tank by itself for a couple of weeks would that already be female?"
2. i have tried multiple anenomes with my female and she beats the crap out of them and they dont last. very fine sand in that tank, she spits it and fluffs it everywhere. i have no problem with my false percs and my bta split all the time in my other tank. so anyways i have a bta in a specimen container
(like something a fish store would use with hole drilled in it) acclimating. i thought that if at first, i put the small clown in the container with the bta for a bit. then did the egg crate thing with them would a white stripe male be ok with a yellow stripe female. kinda stumped on this one. love the look of my female but want to do something. thanks!

so any white stripe maroon is a juvie maroon?

No a GSM starts out w/ white stripes and then changes, and often about a year before showing gold.
And yes, you can mix the two if done properly, and in breeder cup or specimen container is safest for intro.

Smaller the better, as close to an inch as possible, and you can get either color, they should have GSM's seperated and marked, though you just won't see the gold in GSM's till about a year past juvy age.
