White Tips On A Few Pieces of SPS

Hey guys,

I have a quick question...

I just moved over some pieces of coral over to our display a few weeks ago and have noticed some white tips on a few pieces.

Levels:
Nitrates - 0
dKH - 8
Ca - 460
PH - 8
Temp - 78

Running Kessil A360WE fixtures.

Having a bit of a GHA issue, mainly due to a lot of sun hitting the tank in the afternoon, which has been corrected.

Also was getting pretty bad skimmer efficiency, after 2 days I'd have sludge built up. Ordered a neck cleaner for that.

Dosing Vodka as well. Might be doing more damage with the skimmer not running well right now.

Also changing 2 gallons of water everyday, might up to three via the Neptune DoS.

Any ideas of what I should do?

Even my LPS I moved over finally started opening up this week. Maybe just shock from a change in environments?

Thanks guys

Are they coming from another light source? As long as alk levels have no been changing i would put my money on light. make sure you start low and raise up.

Came from my old frag tank with cheap Chinese LEDs.

Started my Kessils at max of 55%, now up to 68% after two weeks.

Think I should dial them back down?

Also forgot to mention the display runs dead stable levels wise. Probably based off of water volume.

cheap chinese led are strong lights also but different compared to kessil. lower white till you see tissue regrow then slowly raise up. you will be okay.

happy reefing

Should I just adjust color, or adjust intensity as well?

blues are okay, its the white that is intense. back down on the white.

With my kessils on my tanks i always ran 100% blue it was the white that i would be scared of lol. i also ran 350 wides.

My color was set to 65, I'll back it down to 50 and see if that helps.

Not sure if I should go below 50...

if you have a andriod download the lux app. its free. measure lux at water line. and tell me. should be a yellow symbol with a bulb. ill tell you your par

Do you know who develops it? There seems to be a lot in the play store.

Ok looking at ~45,000 for the two lights mounted a bit lower.

32,000-37,000 for the two mounted a bit higher.

For 45,000 your par is around 630
for 34,000 your par is around 450

how far are corals away from water line?

How are you testing nitrates?, looking at those photos i doubt very much your nitrate is 0...Even in natural sunlight hair algae needs nitrate to fuel it...

Higher nitrates can cause browning and hair algae can irritate the base of your sps causing them to receed, and stress can cause tips to die....ie change of environment...

Thanks!

Those two are probably around 12" away or so.

Redsea and API tests. Both coming up zero, the vodka and GHA could explain that.

None of the algae is at their bases yet. They were added after the GHA was around. Also been manually removing around the frags.
