My white wyoming has a ripped up face and when it first happend it looked like white ripped flesh all over his face, now with the other clown fish gone and them not fighting I thought it would heal, but its been awhile and his face is still looks a little ripped up, I think its healing though and what I am seeing now is the bone through his skin but the side of his face looks pretty bad also. The reason I am posting this is because now he is swimming face up at the top of the tank for air and still looks pretty battered up, he is also thrashing his head for some reason. Do you guys know how long it takes for clown fish to heal? I have 0 ammonia 5ppm nitrates and 1.025 salinity also 0 phosphates. All of my other fish are fine and he is eating.

First can you post a photo under normal lighting (lose the blue)? It makes it difficult to see exactly what's going on.

If the fish is near the surface, your dissolved O2 may be too low, and/or the fish's gills may have been compromised. Try dropping an airline in or increase your surface turbulence. this may aid the fish's respiration.

How was the fish's face injured, or was it?

My first thought is that the fish has a bad bacterial infection, if the fish was injured, I'm assuming it's secondary as a result of the injury. I've seen fish with raging bacterial infections literally "melt" in the past, and if you can see bone, your fish is in a lot of trouble.

Assuming a bacterial infection, your fish should be removed to a hospital tank and treated with a good broad spectrum antibiotic such as Furan 2. I'd also lower the temp to at least 74*, but 68*F would be better, as if this is a bacterial infection, the lower temp will slow/arrest bacterial growth until the meds work.

Post up the pic, and lets see if it tells us any more.
