my brother had RBTA get caught in one of his pumps. He just pulled it out. It hid out for a couple of days, when he saw it again it was fine. Never even split.

i think u reduce output on any pump when u put anything over it...that's what sucks. 1 minute i'm saying i'll definately cover, next minute i'm saying i won't, at this minute, i'm saying i will...

I'm guessing that if you use a mesh, it won't affect the GPH very much. The water can easily flow around it.
