Who Else Keeps Clams Under PC's?

Our Derasa was always kept on the bottom. From when it was in our 55 to our 125 now.

Lower light clams like Derasas and Squamosas would be fine.

Cool. I'd like to point out to you clown fanatic, we have the same lights as you on our 55 (260 watt PCs).

I have a few croceas in my 75g under 220W PC and ~150W OD NO T8. None and I repeat NONE have lost their blue/green colors under my lighting condition.

i have a squamossa and a hippo in my 15 gallon tank that has two 65 watt pc's over it. but i also have a 5 inch dersa and 6 inch blue squamossa in the 90 with 500 watts of mh. also there is two croceas and a gigas.

so yes you can keep the easier species under pc's but i would really recomend mh for croceas.

I didn't realize ANY clam could be kept without MH lights.
Do you think I would be OK with a dersa clam in a 75 gal with 260w PC and a 40w actinic fluor? Are Dersa the only one thta can be kept with PC's?

You should be fine with a Derasa or Squamosa.

Derasa, squamosa, Gigas, and hippoppus can all be kept under PC ligts, but all of them get quite big. It is possible to keep gold or black and white maximas under pc lights but they need to be close to the lights, But this is a lot of times hit or miss. I have a wonderful Derasa clam in my 29 with only 130 watts of pc, its on the bottom. pics are in my gallery.

the tank specs are under about 10 gallons. with 24 wt actinics also.

so total. 70 wt mh, 10 k or 20 k w/ 24 wt actnic.

under approx. 10 gallons of water.

do clams like 10, 14, or 20 k better ?

i have also have a tank under 56 wt pcs. could i keep anything there?

A derasa, squamosa, and hippopus would do great under either tanks, but they grow fast and get huge. In the 10 gallon you might want to try a gold maxima but keep it in the upper half of the tank.
