Who Got: Achilles Tang Juvenile on DD?

I would be really interested to hear how it does for you, if you care to share.

I clicked on it 20+ times for an hour, really debated hard about it! Just when I was about to talk myself into it, Gone!

I ordered one off of DD in mid-December of last year. It was also a juvenile and was dead within 24 hours. I was absolutely stunned ( and felt sick to my stomach). LA credited my account. I reordered one a few days later off of LA itself ( not DD). I acclimated the fish the exact same way. This 2nd fish went thru a 5 week quarantine period in a 40 gallon tank with no problem and and then readily adapted to my 140 gallon display. I just recently sold him to someone else because he began to bully my Regal Angel. Throughout the entire year I had him he was extremely healthy, grew about an inch ( started to really show his red/orange teardrop patch) and never had any ich. It was hard to let him go. But in following up, I heard he adapted readily to the other aquarist's tank as well.

I guess my point is that it might not matter ( at least with an Achilles Tang juvenile) if you get one from DD. In my case, the same fish came from LA ( after the 1st one from DD died) and turned out to be a better specimen. In short, I wouldn't hesitate in ordering another Achilles Tang from LA, if I wanted to try another, because of the quality of their livestock and their guarantee.

I thought about picking him up, but passed for now. I did, however, get the Filamented Flasher Super male and the female Bellus Angel

i would've booted the regal angel, but i guess you are loyal to your regal.

especially with the difficulties of acclimating an achilles and keeping it parasite free.

I am not shocked to hear this. I have been a long time fan/customer of the DD list but It seems, to me anyway, LADD Isn't what it use to be a few years ago... They are very good about the credit though.

I would have also picked the Regal Angel over the Tang.

I bought the tang. Ive been wanting an achilles for awhile now but just couldnt pull the trigger on one. Im not sure how long it was on there but I told the guy that helped me to hurry because I knew it wouldnt last long. Im a little nervous about this fish as Ive never owned an achilles before. I was even thinking about canceling the order because Im not sure how he will do with my 7" PBT.

Maybe you might want to separate the PBT tang and let the Archilles get conformable and then put him in.

the filamented looks sweet, wondering if he will always keep the yellow coloration on the dorsal or if thats a pic when he was flashing. Mine looks just like him when flashing.I Love bellus too, well genicanthus in general:) Nice pick ups

Good luck Dave! I really want an Achilles, but being new I cannot get one. They are one of my favorite fangs behind the sohal. If I ever get my dream tank like you did, I would have both. Who knows though :). Let us know how the Achilles does for you. I am sure if you have problems, people here will definantly help you out.

It would be almost impossible to remove a fish from my tank once it is in there. The tank is 96x36x46 tall with 500 lbs of LR. Thanks anyway.

Thanks. Like I just posted above, I wont have alot of options once he goes in. Its a tough call for me because Ive never been in this spot before. I have no experience with the PBT or Achilles. I will let you know how it goes. I wish the tank was 10' long... probably be a little easier.

I received an Achille's 3 years ago from the LADD. Almost immediately after putting in QT, it had ich. I Qt'd for 8 weeks in a 40 gallon breeder and it ate like a pig. I got it very healthy and it was a boss in my tank. It spent the next year and a half in my 300 gallon FOWLR swimming laps day and night. Sometimes it got overly aggressive, which ultimately lead to me selling it. I regret it as I found out that it died shortly after I sold it. That hurt....

When I first got it:

I haven't seen an acclimation box large enough for a tang? At least, the one I have is barely enough large for most wrasses/gobies.

Thanks for posting Dave. Please let is know how he does, if you don't mind. You have a great size tank for him.

Do you have a refugium or large qt tank to start him out in? Just to make sure he eats?

My QT tank (46g) is a little small but it should be ok for a 3" fish. Im going to keep an eye on him for a couple of weeks and if he looks ok I will add him to the DT. I got myself all freaked out reading about how delicate they are. My tank has alot of flow and plenty of swimming room so well see how he does.

Funny, my qt tank is a 46 bow as well :) 3' should be fine for a 3" fish to be in QT. if its too big then you can catch him when he is ready to be showy ;)

Treg, the Achilles will be on DD again. I had a weird feeling that it wasnt going to work so I canceled the order this morning.
