Who has the largest soft coral colony

are those monster raised to that size from captivity and start from smaller sizes? if so, how much time to reached those size in the tank?

if you are talking to me, I bought them as frags, it took about a year and a half to grow them to the size ( the colt was bigger then two soccer balls, I fragged it down though )

It's an S.gigantea. The clowns are the only fish I have ever owned that I ever named. Fred and Ethel have been with me for 5 years.

That name put a song in my head again, thank you very much!!!!

One observation I noticed about the growth of my Elegance, Golden Leather, and Kenya Tree is that the dirtier the water was, the larger they grew. Same thing happened with a dark orange or brown Zoa colony I had. One day when I had my 100 gallon up and running my skimmer pump died. I put off buying another one and over the course of a month or two I noticed a rather large increase on those corals in growth. In fact, I thought I was losing my Elegance (started with 4 cups/mouths, slowly shrank down to 2), but then after that it grew back to about 6 overall disks/mouths.

Sometimes I feel these corals types are better suited for people, like me, who are a bit more lazy in tanking care of their tanks. I'm pretty bad.

These are so beautiful! I don't feel ready to post mine yet so I will just say my profile picture is getting there Eventually I hope to have the whole thing grown in with leathers, palys, zoas, xenia etc and just a little LPS and SPS. It is a 65 gallon. I rarely change the water now and my softies and algae seem to suck up the nutrients. I am growing xenia on the back wall, it is the big yellow ball in the middle. I have T5s and compact flouros to grow the xenia and chaeto in the back. I actually really like the combination of the blue and yellow/white light. I will post a real pic and not just my avatar when it is more grown in. I LOVE soft and lps tanks. Nice eye candy everyone!

That image has a lot of good color mixture there. Really nice tank and photo.

Here is my toadstool when I first got it in 2010

Here it is today... Not quite fully extended but you get the idea.

Here is a Kenya that popped up about a year later. It got about twice this big then closed up for a month. I cut it off at the base and it grew right back.

Wow I never thought softie tanks could look so nice good work. I have only 2 softies in my tank so many of them are evasive I worry about putting them in my display.

Those grow so fast, don't they? If that is a leather, I ordered a Golden Leather a few months back. They shipped it on a 3 or 4" abalone shell and the frag was maybe the size of a quarter at best. Now it is pushing 6" across the top, and a few inches tall with girth to match.

I didn't know they attach to rocks. I should move mine off the sand bed.

People say Xenia don't pulse in high flow, mine are blasted by a magnum koralia and still pulse quite well.
