Who is going to the Cmas swap

This will be the first frag swap that I miss... Good news is I will save 6-700$ that month that I can support my LFS with since they do not go back on their policies.

Scenario- That coral is 50$ when you buy it out of the tank but then all of a sudden when you get to the cash register they tell you that the cost is 70$. Funny thing is in this scenario you can tell them to put the coral back- anyone want a laminated piece of paper?

ridiculous analogy

I'll bite,

First of all love the logo- as a proud Illini Alum!

Second the analogy is just one of promising one thing and the next time you talk changing it to something different. Think it's solid. Really the only difference is time. The LFS example is within a few minutes and the other is over a few months. Same principle and poor business in my book.

I do agree it is overdone and should have kept it to the other forum and apologize as it is off topic to this one! Should have just responded: "NO, this will be the first one that I miss".

:deadhorse1:
First time I added one of those but seemed I am responsible here!

Take care,
JIM

It's ok Jim, I get it, but I really feel its been overblown by some here. But a club membership and the rules that go with it are much different than grabbing a $50 coral and them ringing it up as $70. IMHO

I plan on going. I hate missing an opportunity to see my Chicago land friends. The fellowship of fellow reefers is the attraction for me. So yes I hope to attend.

I wish I could offer a perfect solution to the problems addressed but no mater how hard people try there are no perfect solutions. Setting up fragfests are a lot of work, fests with raffles are even more work. On constant seems to be claims of people being greedy, which is hard to understand since for non-profits all the money goes back to the membership. On October 5th the Bloomingtion Normal Area Reef Club will be having its Octoberfest. For those who want everyone to have an equal opportunity to win a prize we offer a door prize everyone who pay to get in receives one ticket and has an equal opportunity to win a raffle prize. We also have raffle prizes and the more tickets a person buys the greater their chance of winning. If someone buys one ticket they can win because it only takes one ticket to win a prize but if there are 300 tickets in a bucket your chances are less than if someone put 100 tickets in that bucket. I know that SLASH has graduate raffle with $1, $5 and $10 tickets. I don't know if this encourages people to spend more or not but I do know that if one person buys 1 ticket and someone else buys 10 tickets so there are 11 tickets for a big ticket item there person with 10 of the 11 tickets in the item has a greater chance of winning...How much you spend does impact the probability of your winning no matter what the cost of the tickets. I know at our last raffle we had several items that only had a single ticket in the bucket...and one with no tickets......if someone put a ticket in those containers their chance of winning was much greater than for the LED systems that everyone put a ticket into. I don't know how you please everyone. Yes it would be nice to win a Biocube after buying a single $1 ticket instead of spending $400 on tickets to win one. But who is the greedy person? The one that puts $1 into the club treasury and expects to win a big prize or the person that puts $400 into the club treasury trying to win that same prize? For 7 years I refused to be on the BNARC BOD because I didn't think I could invest the time required.....I saw others spend hours after hour trying to put on good events...many left the club feeling unappreciated. I am now putting in my time on the BOD and it is impossible to please everyone.....but this is a great hobby and overall the people in it are great. But by an large greed is not rampant in this hobby. Many people share frags of expense corals with others at fragfests and club meetings. People who want large events with speakers and workshops need to understand that all those things cost money. The main ways to raise that money is entrance fees, raffles of donated goods, and membership fees. I don't know the perfect combination to give the greatest number access to the hobby but I can tell you that as a member of SLASH, CMAS, GIRS, BNARC, JARC I have seen a lot of good people put a lot of effort trying to promote the hobby knowing they are donating their time so others can walk in and have a good time. The more people that help the easier it is to have an event. Just some things to consider as you decide if you choose to attend an event, become a member of a club or participate in a raffle. All choices that are yours. But if we don't put something into the clubs they may not be there later for us to enjoy. These thoughts are not aimed at any one person or post but are thoughts I struggle with as we try to figure out how to make our fragfest more attractive to people outside our area ....CMAS and JARC because we didn't see many of you last year. I wish everyone well and hope that whatever you choose to do you feel good about in your heart. Anger is a cancer that eats away at ones heart. Uncle Carl

I'll be there, even if the only purpose is to shake the hands of those that set it up and get NOTHING in return, other than agita.

Oh, that's right. They might get some free pizza. Remember, no 2nds or extra toppings guys! We're watching.
