Who is running MH only on their sps tank?

I am upgrading to a 120gal sps tank and I am wondering if I can put 2- 400 watt MH over this 48" tank with no supplemental lighting. I am considering the Lumenarc reflectors to help disperse the light. Any thoughts?

If you are running only MH, what wattage, which bulb(s)?

i run 2 14k mh's over my 120 and all the sps r fine.. actinics r over rated in my opinion.. with mh's with good par and a good color spectrum, no actinic supplementation is needed

HMmm I run 2x250W AB 10k , and 130w pc Actinics

If your tank is established SPS I hear you can get away w/ XM20K or Ham 14K but far less growth rates than 10k's ...just less PAR.

i had 2 250 watt de mh bulbs over my sixty for a long time and it worked well... i just recently added some actinic pc's b/c i like the bluer color

Okay new question:

Anyone have a full tank of sps running just MH? Can we see pics?

I'm running mh only and I'm not very happy.

I run dual 175w 20k on my 55 with NO for dawn/dusk effect, not on during the day. 2 years and still no problems, good growth and color.

2 X 175w 20k XM.

I run 4 over my tank (6 foot long) on modified PFO-perpendicular reflectors. At various times of the day, only 2 of the lamps are fired (in pairs, outside set is 250W 10K's, inside set is 400W HQI 20K's). Either config of 4 lamps or 2, are more than enough for the whole 6 foot tank, IMO.

Just switched my 120 to 2x250 HQI AB. I like the look very much, but too soon to tell what the growth rate is.

I have 14k Coralvue bulbs only on my tank right now. While I'm perfectly happy with it colorwise, my plan is to add actinics so that I can decrease the MH period. I'll also switch to Reeflux 10K bulbs (I don't like the look of an XM 10K alone on a tank, personally).

Two 250-watt 10,000K DE Ushio in PFO Minis:

PAR right above the water surface peaks at 1300. Where most of the coral are, the PAR ranges from 200-350. Each lamp is on six hours a day, with staggered on and off time to produce a nine hour photoperiod.
