Who is using Reeftech LED?

Yes I unserstand that, just trying to figure out if I want to spend 1300. on this unit or 2 AI SOL for about 300-400 cheaper. Im not trying to be cheap, its just I want to get the best I can. Just want to think this thru.

It's all personal preference...but in my opinion there is NO comparison. You don't have the wide variety of control with the AI as you do with the Reeftech nevermind the colors.

My tank is 180 gallon long, they are the 20" Prometheus units. They are well worth the money and Editour2 is correct in saying there is no comparison. I will post some more pics with the units on the tank soon.

Yes 3 20" units over a 180....I have basically the same tank...215 just a little deeper and use 3 of the 2011 models...those units are approximately 14" so the spread on the newer version is even nicer.

Wow the Reeftech Prometheus's look fantastic.. Kind of confused though, how many Reeftech Prometheus v.2012 would I need to light my 100 gallon reef? 48"l x24"w x20"h

It depends on what you plan to have in your tank. If you want to keep softies and LPS then you could probably get away with using 1 32" fixture. However if you want to keep SPS then I would go with 2 20" fixtures.

How much would you say it will cost for them to custom make one for my tank?
I am going to be focusing on SPS/LPS.

You'd have to contact them for a price quote, (tell them Frank recommended you). I would say anywhere from $2400 to $2600 for 2 prometheus units, (well worth the investment). Don't forget these units will last 11 years running them 7 days a week at 12 hours per day (without material loss).

ReefTech lights

ReefTech lights

Here are some pics of the ReefTech Prometheus lights on my tank. The control-ability of these lights are endless. As you see in the pics from left to right the first light is green, second is red and the third is blue. The second pic I got a little crazier playing with it and on the first light I set the first section to green left the middle off and the third section to white, on the middle light I set the first section to blue and the middle to white and left the third off, and on the last light I set the first section to blue and the middle off and the third section red. On each unit is 6 LED boards that you can also control separately as well as control each unit separately. Which allows for different part of the tank to be set differently so you can adjust to your animals specific needs. I will post a few other pics later of some different set ups with them.

Small question. I see that it seems several people are saying they are upgrading from last years model to this years. Seems to negate the long term savings of the fixture so my question is why upgrade? Is this years model that much better than last years? What about next years? Does a company give discounts for having purchased last years fixtures? Are you guys talking totally buying new light fixtures or is it a panel that you buy from 2012 and can retrofit into the older fixture? They seem like amazing lights and am planning an upgrade tanks in the next year or so, I am just curious and trying to figure out the smartest purchases ahead of time to do things right.
Thanks all! Good luck.

The 2011 model body was changed in the 2012 release...I'm guessing because it was a little ugly. However if u wished to keep the old 2011 model and upgrade to the 2012 led boards I don't see any reason why I couldn't have. i opted to keep the 2011 model for my frag tank and get the new 2012 for my display. They are already changing the led boards a bit to include uv lights and add a extra chanel of control. I have already prepaid for this upgrade and will be a easy change for me since it only will require me to remove 7 screws per board.

Interesting. Thanks for the quick answer. You've got an awesome looking tank. Clearly that light works well for you. I haven't seen this light in person. How is the shimmer on it? Does it look naturally? I love MH shimmer but the very limited led tanks I've seen have a very strobe like disco ball effect that doesn't look at all natural. Found it distracting and made my eyes hurt. However, I will stress I've seen very very few led tanks. Only like 2 brands of LEDs so in no way can I say all leds give that look.

I have the 2011 units....the shimmer is amazing and looks very natural. There is absolutely no "disco ball effect" LOL. Regarding changing from 2011 to 2012.....you can't stop the advancement of technology. Think about computers and PC's.....what was considered the fastest and largest memory capacity last year is now slow and insufficient. The owners at Reeftech will work with you if you want to upgrade....it will not be like purchasing all over again.

Shimmering is the same like in all other fixtures - where arent used focusing lenses... Its nothing "magic" .. :-)

@stefonski
It looks like rainbow .. Nice :-)
I saw in pictures that on every pcb board there are three drivers/channels - but there are assembled more than three kind of leds(white/blue/green/orange)... So - green and orange are mixed in the same channel? (if white and blue are on separate?) im not sure - but there is no other way - if there are three channel drivers on board... So in fact - there is 5 dirrent colour channels or six as they wrote? How it work in your lamps? Can you post screenshot from app?(i dont know why it is not published on their site...)
Did you get newest model with wifi or older model with bt module?

Im talking about that picture:

@jenzifer quick question. If I'm not mistaken the 2011 model was delivered to the U.S on 09/11 so are you saying you prepaid for the model 6 months in advance? @grizzly guy
without any comments on the picture spread and division of color looks like something not completely made for evenly distributing the light. In the beginning when i saw the computer generated drawings of the lamps and see the final product I only want to say "momma says you ugly"
