Do you run UV on your tank. Also list how big your tank is..

I had some bacterial bloom issues + some algae, and I put a 30 watt on my reef.
They cleared up within 3 days.

My system is about 600G total volume and I run a 114 watt Aqua UV. Not sure how much good it will do for your algae bloom but they work great for water polishing as well as killing free floating organisms and parasites if your running low enough flow. While they are not "needed", I am a firm believer in the benifits.

Some do, some don't. People who want pods and micro organisms in their tank, usually don't use UV, for the obvious reason that if it were to pass through the unit chances are it would kill them. People who are not interested in keeping those organisms but would rather have a lesser chance of fish getting parasites, a UV sterilizer is sometimes the best thing you can do for your aquarium.

It's all about what you prefer in your aquarium.

Im using the coralife turbo twist 36w on my 600g FO tank and it does work for water clarity. I dont have any algae problems either.

I have TONS of pods in my tank even with the UV. I have to scrap them off the glass with the magnet every day... I didnt think a 30w would do alot but it sure has helped IMO

Will a UV Sterilizer help with green hair algae?

a UV sterilizer only works with floating parasites or organisms. For example if you have Ich in your system on a few fish, a UV won't heal those fish, it will only prevent it from speeding. Since ich is a free swimming parasite, it will kill any ich that passes through the sterilizer. Same thing with algaes. It only kills what is still free swimming. Watch this video:
